Engineers A Little Letter To Frontier

I'm pretty mad at you right now. A lot of work involving the engineers is grindy. You have to fulfill certain requirements to unlock them and a lot of them are annoying and/or boring. And then you have to get the mats to engineer the items. More grind but bearable. I am about to unlock Marco Qwent finally after several MONTHS. My case is extreme I am sure but argggghhh grinding for modular terminals has been the worst experience in game. I have done mission after mission until I get too bored to care anymore and then wander off to do something else. But I would return and do missions, passenger missions, transport missions, massacre missions and no modular terminals. This has gone on for months. Finally I went to Quince to do like everyone else and grind the easy scan missions. I never wanted to do that. I just wanted to play the game normally but that doesn't work. Quince seems borderline exploitative but it feels like it was that or grind fruitlessly.

Simply put, getting access to Marco Qwent isn't fun, not remotely. It's actually made some of the parts of the game I enjoy less enjoyable. Instead of doing missions for fun I would do them over and over and over hoping to see Modular Terminals as a reward. I would hop station to station and refresh mission and no luck. I a play a game to have fun and enjoy myself. I love fighting npc's in res sites and exploring the galaxy. Most of the game is fun.

Modular terminals are the opposite of fun or enjoyable and there needs to be a better method than depending on mission RNG.

Can't really fault anything you said there. It's difficult to be a goal-focused player in Elite. The RNG built into the game seems designed to dissuade players from focusing on a single goal. It's difficult to explain, but I think the problem is that if you want one specific item, the process to get it wastes your time by giving you loads of things you don't want along the way. This is probably why grind guides and exploits for Elite are so popular, now that I think of it. Minimum wasted time towards a goal. That being said, Frontier really should respect your time and give you a mission that rewards modular terminals, point you to where they can be found, or admit they screwed up by just opening your browser to a Google search of the phrase "elite dangerous modular terminals 2017".

Totally agreed. My engineered AspX with long jump range did help with the pain of those rare goods unlocks but none of this should even be necessary. Grinds for the sole purpose of adding a timesink should be outlawed. It is lazy, unimaginative development designed to keep players playing without having to do much work for it.

I don't really mind hunting for materials for the upgrades (except for rare mission rewards like exquisite focus crystals), it's the timesink grinds to unlock the engineers that bother me.

While I generally defend much of the engineers progression, there are parts that are suckily grindy. Qwent is the worst, I think.

Grinding for one ship isn't that bad, doing it for an entire fleet gets really old. That's the issue I had when I first started out Engineering...

I'm just not going to bother with Qwent. I'll never have G5 dirty drives, but I don't want to do PvP so I don't care that much. NPCs are easy enough to kill in an unmodded ship, so my G3 DDs are almost overkill anyway.

Having said that, I'm not thrilled that there's content that's apparently so annoying to get to that I'm put off from even trying. I'm ignoring it, but I shouldn't feel I have to.

The really dumb thing is, they could just make it so you can purchase modular terminals and it would negate this whole joke.
It's not like the modular terminals are hard to get, they're not. It's the pure random chance of getting a mission that rewards you with them that is the problem. That's not a skill check, its a patience check. The very worst concievable concept for a game.

Can you see the uncanny resemblance?

Stop grinding way at stuff you dont need to have fun. Seriosuly spending months to get a +1 blah blah from doing stuff you dont enjoy is just boggling. Rule one of any game do the stuff you enjoy.

Dear Sir,

For the last few months I have been doing something I dont enjoy. Please fix me.

Dear Commander x,

Thank you for your letter. Our analyst have looked in to your issue and it seems the bug is that you are after a gizmo coz you needs it badder than a badger needs a baddgering. Have you tried doing something else in the game that you find fun?

Yours

Commander Postman.

I have to agree. The only thing in all of Engineers that I hated more than unlocking Qwent was having to mine for Selene Jean and Bill Turner, and that wasn't so much because of grind as because I loathe mining.

I don't mind some grind in my games, but Qwent was too much.

Fortunately, none of the others are that bad.

*Blows horn* Here comes the WhiteKnight to defend princess Frontier! Run for your lives!
the grind indeed sucks, is kinda absurd sometimes... But u rly took months to liberate Quent? WTH!

I believe him. It took me 2 weeks cause I accidently flew to Qwent all my modular terminals in open.

Frontier: Let's make the requirement that they have to be obtained from missions only. It's not like the place is 15,000ls from the main star, right?
