A little lod bias trick to sharpen your image. Might be interesting to some.

Hello,

I found this while trying to get project cars 2 to look more crisp and/or clear. Link to post with instructions on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/73vq7n/i_found_a_way_to_sharpen_project_cars_2_in_vr/

I've put lod bias to -1.1250 and I feel this is a good setting with a bit more "crispness" without increasing flickering to much. Now, I've gotten my image in the rift pretty clear as it is so it is not a massive improvement, but I thought I'd share regardless. Just to be clear, the importan part is to choose the same AA mode as shown in the reddit thread or else changes to lod bias will not "stick".

Hope this can help.

This is done through nvidia inspector so I would assume it works for vive as well. Using a negative lod bias value has been a “trick” that I’ve tried earlier in iracing after reading some guides, but never really seen any difference. I believe that changing the AA mode is what made the difference to me. Try changing it to a large value like -2.0000 and you should see a difference if you done it right. Though you might find it way to sharp and grainy at that value. I have done this in iracing and assetto corsa to good effect and the increased sharpness and detail gives an increased immersion to me at the cost of some aliasing. It’s not that easy to see in elite dangerous, but I had a pretty good image as is. I believe it helps, but people’s preferences in vr is always different. Also placebo is a factor when it comes to adjusting graphics in vr (small disclaimer). This is a small change and I can’t wait for the new HMD’s with increased resolution. Wouldn’t mind EDev putting in some sharpening filters like luma sharpen though.
