Engineers A long post about my engineers experience don't read if you want to see something negative

My experience of engineers so far.

First let me say I'm quite a casual player I've had the game since the mercenary (beta) release. I think for example I've played since Sunday 4 hours the kids are asleep and wife is knitting/crocheting, keeps her quite I don't care, anyway I bought her dishwasher so I'm allowed some game time and a few beers this week. Enough of my domestic life...

So I got an invite from that Todd blaster what's his face and I headed down to go and see him, more than a few jumps in my imp. Courier. I wanted to take my main ship down because if there was a chance I wanted to relocate I didn't have to move backwards and forwards. Completely forgot to fit a fuel scoop half way there and I had to visit the rebuy screen, Well what can you do. So fitted a fuel scoop and got there after some "honk your friendzone is charging" etc.

I had on only just got rid of the smell of fish the rebuy helped in that regard, the first level mod only requires 3 items awesome. Time for bed.

So next session I had been reading where to find different things I started to search the planet surface for rocks this was actually the first time I had done this I had landed on planets previously but really I was a flying guy. Awesome after about an hour of bouncing around jumping and causing damage to my SRV i found a rock to zap and found what I was looking for first time out, from reading the forums it seems I'm quite lucky. Bed time.

So next I was looking for some cracked industrial firmware, I had been flying around in space going to nav beacons doing some hunting so had already picked up some materials and got the hang of choosing what to pick up and discard, also I went to a USS and scanned something pulled in quite a lot of data. This is where I see a lot of complaints it seems if you have stuff in your hold, materials, data or cargo you get interdicted and vaped. So from my experience of only an hour or 2 flying round in SC looking for targets (I'm combat level competent) I had only been interdicted once by a cobra mostly harmless I think he lasted about 1 minute, I killed him before the cops came. I thought I'll try and see if the NPC's really are harder so I interdicted a master DBX. It was actually quite a fair fight we got each other down to one ring of shields but I had time to let mine charge up, the cops came, but they didn't appear they were sending radio messages like they do when in instance but they weren't actually visible or shooting (is this a bug should I report it) so I decided to jump because I didn't want to lose my ship or what I'd already collected overall for me a good fight. Off to bed

So I had been reading about people not being able to find firmware after hours and hours of play and I was a little worried, this was the goal for my next game session. Went straight for a surface medium security base in the next system. I don't like to poo on my own doorstep etc. Flew in close had a look around couldn't really see what I had to do so I landed and approached in my SRV for a closer look. Went up a ramp and got stuck on a red wall I was tired kids had woke me up at 5 am that morning so I went to bed. Spent my dinner at work reading that you need to start version 1.6 and it puts you back in space, cool not a big problem. So next session I'm feeling lucky ..... Decides maybe a medium is a bad idea so I went for a low sec. Surface base flew past got some warnings for trespassing etc. But couldn't see any turrets so I landed and headed of to have a drive round. Got very close and I started to get some fines no problem it's only a fine, took out the turrets with my SRV and scanned a public thing, ok then I found a data point and scanned that, wow a time limit so I scooted round and scanned the rest and did the final with something like 5 seconds to spare and got my data awesome. Headed of into space thought I'll land at the station but now I was wanted, it gave me permission and a pad to land on but as I went through the the door they scanned me and I was trespassing I escaped just about by the skin of my teeth thank god for point defence.

Now I need to find ...... Hybrid capacitors

Overall I can see the worries that people have and I've been very lucky in my material searches, what I have enjoyed the most is actually learning the new mechanics surface warfare and being careful in space because I hadn't really experienced this before. I am trying to figure out if I should try and farm a little materials to do some mods/upgrades at the same time or should I just have a different goal every time I play. For example I'm thinking to visit another engineer to pin a blueprint.

Good read and how I am playing the game. Just enjoying doing all the stuff I would never have tried before. Even mining :D

I think everyone would feel that this update was a good thing if their material searches were this easy :) But sadly it is all down to the roll of a dice, and two players doing the exact same thing will have totally different experiences. I have played for 30 hours since 2.1 dropped and don't have materials for a single upgrade... frustrating is the only description I can use in the forums without getting banned!

I believe the AI will respond differently based on your combat ranking in some instances. I am deadly, 68% to elite and I see that the NPC's around me are high ranks and in all kinds of ships. Even the Sideys are piloted by elites. My interdictions are 90% deadly/elite FAS, FDS, FGS, Pythons and Clippers, only a couple of times have they been Explorer or less. So I do a lot of running, even in an A-Class Python that until recently has reactive armor but I took it off to reduce buyback costs. Hopefully this may change, where one has a chance in taking on an equal ship with success every third or fourth encounter as an example.

I've got over 1k hours on this game because it is a good game that has potential to be great. But some the recent upgrade issues have really changed the way I play and not all resulting in a more pleasant experience.

You can find damn a LOT of hybrid capacitors in Conflict Zones.
Yea, if you want to chance it- personally i`d take a smaller(read CHEAPER insurance rebuy) ship to go there in... my 1billion cr vette is a dust gathering machine now... /sigh

But if you choose to hop into a CZ- take mates... or go alone and snipe around the edges.. be picky...

Be careful out there..
