A lot of complaints about griefers, not that many about how difficult it is to block someone...

Coincidence?

Let me explain. from what I understand, the system of blocking people at the moment does not allow you to simply remember the player's name, search it later and block them that way. Currently you must select the player WHILST UNDER ATTACK (and presumably more interested in desperately trying to save your ship/cargo) and block them there and then. Wouldn't it be a lot better for most people's enjoyment of the game if it was easier to block griefers?

Personally I love real player pirates, they bring a sense of excitement and realism to the game the the generally outclassed NPCs just don't. But griefers who kill you for the craic I cannot stand, and avoid where possible. Unfortunately the two seem to coexist, if I find a system where I may be pirated (fun!) I may also be griefed (boo!).

However, if I could simply block griefers more easily each time it happened, eventually this problem would be minimised (though perhaps not completely eliminated due to the limitations of the current instancing model). griefers would find themselves increasingly blocked by the majority, but true pirates would be able to operate (albeit only with those like myself who seem to want to play the game properly...)

Anyone found a better way to block people after you've died?
Are there other limitations of the blocking system that I've overlooked?
Are people already doing this and STILL being griefed by the same people, or does the current method of blocking mean you have been unable to find them to block?

Where are all these so-called griefers? I've been playing in open since beta-backing ages ago and not once been hassled by another player. Sometimes I barely see two or three cmdrs and the ones I do are just going about their business. I quite fancy some PvP action, where's it at?!

Leesti, lave, eravate. basically the starting system plus a very popular player destination/seat of a large number of rare commodities.

not that I play there anymore, due to said griefers. but it was fun being pirated while I was there! just not annihilated the second I left the no fire zone before I jumped because it was 'funny'. or interdicted and murdered without any demands or communication. or stalked and murdered repeatedly attempting to leave a station for no reason, until I had to stop playing for a few hours.

seriously FD, please make blocking these antisocial trolls easier so I can enjoy RPing with pirates!

You can't block players in open, you can only block communication from them.

seriously? I was sure I'd heard of a function where blocked players are less likely to be put in an instance with you... did this get removed sometime in beta?

Recently I've been interdicting human players with a wanted status to murder them for the bounty. Are you wanted? If you are and its the bounty which they're after then why would they talk to you?
.
If I'm interdicting a human hauler/transporter I usually drop their shields and reduce them down to 10% hull. Then I ask them do you want to die or are you going to drop me cargo? I like to show that I'm serious.

Well if he was 'wanted' I am sure he would have said something about it in the post, Don't you think?

Blood Lust: Shoot hauler/transporter down to 10% but hits the powerplant to 0% *BOOOOOOOM* ops ;)

"Less likely" just means that if there are multiple potential instances when you jump into a system it'll attempt to place you in an alternate instance. If there is no need to create a new instance due to very few players being present (which lets face it is the case for the majority of systems) then you'll probably end up in the same instance anyway. The person you blocked just won't be able to communicate with you.

Sometimes it happens, and sometimes I'm enjoying myself so much I murder him/her even if they do drop cargo. Trigger happy pirate. No rule says I can't.

Yeah, that's a great solution, drive more players out of open.

If they don't like Open, it IS a great solution for them.

If it makes for less "Boo-hoo, I dun been blowed up once and they be griefing me!" threads it will be a blessing for all of us. I've never seen a game with so many people complaining of griefing without apparently knowing what the hell the term actually means.

They want the game and its players to conform to their own playing style. Instead they should adapt to what the game allows and makes possible. Players are going to get interdicted by people who will kill them. They should learn to deal with it. That's what the insurance is for.

Yes, indeed. It's a wonder they aren't all complaining that the naughty NPC pirates are "griefing" them as well. Gods, I wish certain players could spend an hour playing Eve Online, which would definitely give them a sense of perspective. :D

Sure its a great solution for them and by the way Mobius' group keeps on growing it seems to be a very popular solution to perceived griefing. Remember, it is the 'victim's' perception of being griefed that counts. Not some arbitrary definition dreamed up on the web. Open play is haemorrhaging players and it will only grow as knowledge of groups like Mobius' and newbie understanding of the mode system grows. How long before the food chain withers if this keeps up?

Yeah, that's a great solution, drive more players out of open.

The Mobius group (which I'm not a part of) don't drive players out of open, it's the behaviour of morons. Blame them.

The group wouldn't be so large (5500 at the beginning of March according to their website) if a significant number of people didn't feel the same way. I'm guessing it's by far the most successful group of its kind so that's telling you something.
