A metaphorical Hand Grenade

Hello Commanders
Ive just been playing for the past couple of hours and all I've done is "grind" credits through trading.
I use the word "grind" tentatively as from reading so many posts on this forum, I think the term means different things to different people.
For example, I am the type of player who is quite happy to undertake certain activities to gain more credits in order to achieve my own personal gain.
For me, that means accumulating enough credits to get a "dream ship" fitted out to the max.
Actually, In saying that, I do own a Python, Type 9, Fer-De-Lance, Vulture and ASP Explorer which are all modified to varying degrees(but in no way maxed out) , but I am still not unhappy with my current lot in life.
I still have a great deal to aim for.
I haven't got a Cutter or Anaconda for example and I aspire to one day own either (or both) of these fitted out to Class A.
Also, I've not yet achieved Elite status, despite playing since release and I want to be a billionaire to have complete freedom of how I want to play the game.
Anyway, I digress.
The reason for this post is to say, after playing tonight, I still love this game!
When I look back on the original version and how much the game has improved, I can only see a positive.
Sure, there are things which frustrate. I am not a great fan of RNG for instance, but the whole Engineers thing did motivate me to get in my SRV and that was a new thing for me so I can see why it was introduced (although for me, initially I did think the materials acquisition made it too inaccessible for a lot of players, but that was changed).
This forum is great IMHO and I love the passion people show, but personally, I wish there wasn't a conflict between how "hard" or "easy" the game is and how people sometimes only seem to want a game tailored for their own needs and any other opinion results in unsavoury comments.
I am not a "fan boy", but actually do think Frontier have done a great job in producing a game which is true in essence to the original game which I played and loved so many years ago.
I certainly am not asking for anyone to agree with me, but please feel free to comment and agree or disagree. After all, it is a discussion forum!
Fly Safe Commanders!

Well said CMDR, have some Rep.

That being said, I must agree that the word "grind" in these forums is an all too often used word, and one which receives and creates a mainly negative connotation. In some respects these subjective views have objectionable qualities, and in other regards they provide insight into a valid or revealing point. As you said it yourself, these forums are here for our arguments or agreements; and as much as I'd like to be able to see us all hold hands and sing Kumbaya, I highly doubt it's going to happen. Take it easy out there CMDR, and safe travels.

Thanks W4LD0, your reply is very much appreciated and has made me feel that there are people out there who just enjoy the game for whatever they take out of it.
It is a game I think which takes a certain type of person who is happy to work towards rewards, rather the it being something for someone who wants a high octane fix immediately. Or perhaps it also someone who is happy to spend a great deal of time playing.
In saying that, if exploring is their thing, this can be done fairly quickly and the game is beautiful so if "seeing the sights"' brings pleasure, then it is probably more accessible earlier than fitting out a great combat ship and tearing through a RES.
It is also something which can be quite intimidating for the new starter, but with help on the Forum it does fit together enough to enjoy quite quickly.
I still am learning things though and I think that is fantastic.
Your kumaya comment made me laugh a lot, especially as it made me realise I am just an old hippy deep down!
Despite my hippy nature, I still wish that people could take on board others views sometimes without just resulting to insults.
Thanks again CMDR and fly safe yourself.

As an Elite trader (rank acquired before smuggling missions) with 5.2b in assets, an engineered Anaconda, Corvette and Cutter and a few of the small ships also engineered I can tell you.
It feels good man. Keep aiming for the dream and never stop.
Pro tip: Set small goals for yourself remember to treat yourself with some kind of reward after every goal reached.

As a Duke with an iCutter, a Vice Admiral with a Vette and FGS, an explorer (beginner) with an AspX and a "bus driver" on Beluga (my next goal once I get back home from 1y trip) in future, I can say that I still love that game.

There are not so many games that I like and can play for a long time (Warframe was, which I played since CBT for 2 years, but not anymore, long story), but Elite is one-of-a-kind for me. Reason I like it? Space. I love space travel. Played an old game called Space Rangers (oh those text quests, I miss them) if anyone knows what I'm talking about, Mass Effect, EVE, watched Interstellar, Fifth Element (most favorite movie of childhood) and others. I might even play SC once it's released.

I'm not a veteran player in world of Elite and the first time I launched the game, didn't run through training but went into the game straightaway.
1st loading screen, cool menu music. "Alright I'm at some kind of station. So as long as I'm on station safe (I hoped) let's see the HUD, what it can tell me. *some time later* Alright, that's pretty straightforward, I should be fine". And I started exploring. So much of unknown! I loved it so much! (and still do)

Here's my bit of a Love to this game dispite all bugs and everything :) I know FDwill fix them. It's just matter of time)
