A miners life for me

I appreciate mining is not for everyone, don't get much time home so my play sessions are generally focused around sourcing high paying trucking routes and the occasional bit of combat so I don't completely forget how to defend myself.

Decided screw it, going to head back out into the black and enjoy the scenery, listen to a few albums and do a bit of deep space mining out by Barnard's loop. Definitely not regretting it, drifting FA-OFF, the sheer size of the asteroids in VR is indescribable, feels like I am on the USCSS Nostromo (Minus the face Huggers in the cargo bay!)

Pay isn't too bad either, by my calculations I should make around 30 million from this 3 day trip, sure you can make that in a single 8 minute cargo haulage run, but there is something about being out here, I don't even care about the credits.

Btw - If anyone has a BK gamer attached to there gaming chair, the engine rumbling from this 12hour video works perfectly.

Mining is one of a more liked in-game past times.
Very relaxing. Reminds me of fishing. Ironic this post should be here as I was just fitting out some ships (Python one career, T7 the other) to head back out this morning.

Mining is my go-to activity when I just need to switch off and relax.

Putting on a good ambient music and watching the limpets whizzing about is how I relax. It's an in-game version of reading a good book by the fireplace. :)

For me lately that's been SRVing. I still have too much trouble lining up the avacado poles for maximum collecting on the rings, but I can shatter rocks while in boost-flight and collect in my SRV like nothing.

Yes, driving an SRV over alien worlds is another one of those activities that can be almost a spiritual experience. :)

Bet it's even better in VR and with HOTAs, gotta work on that. Me I still get chills hearing the Mass Effect 1 galaxy map music and being able to land the Mako on various terrain, so the SRV is just magic.

I confess I haven't given mining a fair chance yet. Briefly tried, it along with most of the other activities, very early in to my career but have felt the urge to return, until now. I think it's time to head off somewhere quiet for a 'spot of fishing'.

Any tips on ship/outfitting for a decent spell away, would be appreciated.

What's your current loadout? I switched up my usual loadout with a 4A Refinery to a 2A. With the new ignore lists I just didn't need all of those extra bins and now mining is a real zen-like experience. I found a couple of stations near a pristine metallic Friday that were buying painite for 121K and everything else was tops as well.

I really like the way the T9 flies with my HOTAS as I'm mining. The thrusters controlled by an analog stick she hold position well a spinning roid well. With 7 limpet controllers and 2 small, 1 medium laser she mine quickly enough. The only issue I had was the occasional fragment stuck inside the roid. Being able to make limpets is nice, keeps you going and filling up high paying metals.

What's your budget?

After making a career of mining back in the pre-Horizons days, I made a return to it for a couple hours last night. Really a good play experience these days, not to mention a great place to relax and get away. Such a thrill when a Prospector reports a good haul.

Like fishing.

Not too worried on budget. I've just rolled with what Ive enjoyed doing at the time and the credits have rolled along too. I have a T9 parked up at the current CG (and Python, Keelback, Conda and FDS at my home port). I have a few spare engineered modules and if there's something more suited like the T7 I'd grab one.

Once the gameplay has been improved (after 4yrs of waiting) and they add stateful resources under some guise (to combine mining/exploration), then mining might bring me back to the game.

If you have a T9, then just get the collector limpet controllers (it's good to have at least 8 active limpets, but the more the better), one small prospector controller and fuel scoop and the rest is cargo racks. For added fun, you can pack a fighter hangar with you. Then just go a bit beyond the bubble borders, find a nice looking spot and blast away. :)

Just... don't forget to buy limpets. ;)

Thank you for your contribution. ..I guess

Thank you Chris. Re prospector limpets, do you need to fire more than one at each asteroid or is it a case of whatever materials the one prospector identifies on an asteroid is all there is?

Not sure if this will show up, cant get my T9 build to correctly display in Corilois. Anyway here is one of my mining ships, T9 - 704 tonne capacity cargo, does 35LY unladen, 20LY laden. https://inara.cz/cmdr-fleet/9325/358113/

Total cost is 157 million, so not expensive at all for a large ship build.

@Eriseley - Thanks for the offer mate, am used to getting myself out of scrapes in this thing, hull is engineered and it has some engineered seekers installed. If you ever want to wing up tho and fly escort on high value wing missions let me know, normally around 10 mill for a couple of jumps in my area.

If you have a prospector controller that only handles one active limpet, the previous one will self-destruct when you fire a new one. That's not a problem, because she's attached to a mined-out asteroid or one you do not care about, anyway.
If you can fire two prospectors at the same time, it speeds up the prospecting (you can check two asteroids at once) but it's not necessary. If you use the C2 slot for disco scanner, though, the next smallest slot is Class 3, and 3A Prospector controller does have two active limpets, so there's that.

Edit: ...or just look at 777Driver's loadout. :)
I don't have an SRV on my mining T9, instead I have another collector controller, and I use fixed mining lasers, but other than that, that's pretty much it.
