A Moment Of Clarity : Retail Buyers Need Help From Beta Players

Having the most expensive ships be invulnerable to cheaper ships is stupid. That'll just turn the whole game into your stereotypical MMO where everyone just grinds for 'end-game'. Ugh. Please. i don't want World of Warcraft in space.

Every ship should have a viable use. Some should be better at some things then others substantially but holy crap the idea that 1 ship should > all others? Do you want the whole game to only be filled with people flying pythons and every newer player who doesn't have one to be utterly irrelevant?

The ultimate factor in this game should be the pilots ability to pilot their craft. A smart pilot will get a craft that suits his playstyle (a super agile pilot might favor an eagle).

However nothing would have me stop playing faster then the whole game to be about who can get a python/anaconda first.

Some people just feel if they grind in game credits theyre entitled too auto-win every fight which is a poor mentality.

a big ship aint autowin, but what is the point of grinding a ton of credits for a big ship if the next noob in a eagle can blow you out of space?
A Viper should never be able to take out an elite anaconda without help.
A good viper should be able to take out a python, but extreme risk involved.
But nah...everything has to be killable by noobs or lazy people.

Stormtrooper: Why Master Vader, you look a little peeved?
Darth: yes actually son, yes I am.
Stormtrooper: may I ask why master?
Darth: well lad, I have years of grinding my way in the dark side. It's taken forever! I finally grind my way up to a Death Star. It's my end game ship, it can take out whole planets!
Stormtrooper: then why the sad face lord?
Darth: well, there I was, mindlessly swatting all these little ships in it and guess what, along comes this little brat of a kid in an x-wing and one shots me! This ship took work and money, it should be invincible to other ships. That's it, I'm quitting!
Stormtrooper: really my lord?
Darth: well, ok. I'll give it one last go but if it happens once more....

The only thing that really bugs me is that this:

Has no resemblance at all to the game I actually bought.

Although I do love Elite.

So much griping. So much entitlement. So many special snowflakes.

It's like the WoW forums all over again.

I followed development fanatically from Dec 2013, bought in at premium beta, and I think the project has departed from the original vision and design docs starting a few weeks before release.

Other opinions may vary! I don't know where it's headed, I can't understand micro tuning of ship stats when shield cells are in the game. I don't get the sudden focus on PvP when the game was never ever EVER supposed to be focussed on PvP.

It's wait and see for your answers I'm afraid, but you will find others on here with more certainty on what is coming and when.

yes. seems to be focusing on pvp now, a shame.

The flight mechanics were always focused on PvP, there just weren't enough people in the beta capable of recognizing that for anyone outside of beta to know.

Literally nothing has changed in their scope or design of the ships, or what they intend them to be or to be used for since alpha. It was only a surprise to the people who chose to ignore it.

+1 While this may no be the best analogy, it will illustrate how I look at encounters with other ships in Elite:

No matter how much I have invested or tricked out my corvette, I am NOT going to put it on a dirt track with 4x4 trucks.

Conversely, regardless of the investment, I will not bother trying to race my 4x4 against corvettes on paved roads.

Finally, if I am going to seek the life of cartage/hauling, I will use something completely different than a corvette or 4x4.

The ultimate factor in this game should be the pilots ability to pilot their craft. A smart pilot will get a craft that suits his playstyle (a super agile pilot might favor an eagle).

+2 The one upgrade everyone thinks they can do without or replace with credits: SKILL from experience and practice.
