A monthly subscription

It has probably been suggested a heap of times but I would like to put forward, once again most likely, that a monthly subscription be available with some kind of premium attached to it. I used to pay a monthly subscription to ESO and always felt they made it worthwhile. I would love to help continue financing this game as i know it will providing funding for its future improvements and i dont always want to buy the cosmetics that you have available at the time when i am well financed to do so. I like the ship packages I think that is a great idea, maybe subscriptions could accumulate credits in the form of arx wtih some kind of an extra reward for the people happy to pay every month. Love the work you have done. Sorry that you get so much grief from some players. Hope you take these ideas into consideration and find a funding model that means you can keep this game alive with awesome content into the future.

I wouldn’t even think of trying to count the number of times.

There really is no need of a subscription to accumulate Arx when you can buy as many or few Arx bundles as you can afford every pay day. Yes a subscription would mean you didn’t have to think about the purchase but that is also the downside of subscriptions.

Hmmm i wasnt talking about a 1 to 1 buying ratio which buying monthly arx would do and a subscription could also come with other perks making it desirable. I wouldnt discount it straight away when some of the best maintained games use premium subscription models.

You may not be aware, but there is a whole store of perks you can buy with your subscription ARX - over here --> https://www.elitedangerous.com/store/

SUBSCRIBE TODAY!

And don't worry, you can cancel your subscription at any time by simply cancelling your calendar reminder, and you can increase or decrease your subscription by simply clicking a different amount - very convenient.

Tell a friend - subscribe to ED!

The problem is from Frontier's point of view, the financial difference between the subscription and you just buying ARX is "plus however much extra you pay that you wouldn't normally" (given that you're getting cosmetics at a cheaper rate, this really has to tempt you into buying a lot more of them than you otherwise would) and "minus the cost of creating any bonus perks that aren't otherwise available for ARX".

The number of players who go for this sort of thing is going to be a fairly small fraction of the proportion who buy ARX at all.

For something like ESO with $2 billion lifetime revenue and 2.5 million monthly active players, they don't need a particularly large proportion.
For Elite Dangerous with ~£100 million lifetime revenue and ~0.5 million monthly active players, they need a much larger proportion. So what might be economically sensible and profitable for ESO might well not get the economies of scale to work for ED.

(Only Frontier know for sure, but there's certainly some evidence that a relatively small proportion of ED's income comes from ARX sales, and therefore the actual market for a subscription to get "slightly discounted ARX plus some ill-defined 'perks'" might well not be worth the effort of setting it up)

I'm not against a subscription model, but it's hard to find value in one at this point.

If subs paid for priority instancing on enhanced servers or something I would have paid a sub in the past. I don't play often enough with other players to much care about that anymore.
By enhanced servers, I mean dedicated servers instead of P2P in CG, war, or other very active systems allowing for more players than the typical functional max of 20ish to instance together.

You know what will be fun to watch if ED gets a subscription? The rise in level of entitlement - "supporting the dev" would VERY quickly become "do something for the money I give you". Looking forward to it.

If they go to subscription to play the game then I don’t expect to see any of that, I suspect I might see it if it was subscribe for Arx.

Why wouldn’t I see it because I have no plans on reading the forums when I stop playing the game.

Hopefully it won’t come to that as I would have to find something to do.

People would expect more than Fdev would be able to produce ?
More ships better Paintjobs, weapons , suits, decals and ship kits stories.
The entitlement would go absolutely apepoop . For example "As an explorer why would I pay for a war ? "
Arx used to be the way many people used to "pay" Fdev but that's become sore point for many now.
