Proposal Discussion A more destructive version of self destruct.

If you are being taken out by another pilot, I think there should be last-resort offensive options available to make the victory a bittersweet one for the offender(s):

1) target lock an unfortunate attacker and set your ship to "auto-ram" them, whilst escaping in your pod.

2) set your various system modules to overload in such a way that so that after you exit via the escape pod, the ship blows up in a more violent way than usual, with a large enough blast radius that it can take out a group of looters who stray too close, or perhaps take out one of their modules.

(Perhaps the timing on both of these options could even be player-controlled?)

What do you think? Neither of these options would be default in my proposal, but they would add a little spice to proceedings. I haven't seen such things in the DDA, but I may be looking in the wrong places.
 
I would guess that self-destruct after being fired upon would be viewed a lot differently by the various authorities than an unprovoked one.

We know those babies run hot, so allow us to manually disengage the Hyperdrive's thermal regulator coupling to create a containment breach :) That should unleash enough energy to destroy a small fleet of Anacondas.

But yeah... Explosions are a bit tame considering what's under the hood.
 
I love this idea...but we're gonna have idiots flying up to star ports and hitting the self destruct just to mess with people.

There would needs to be major penalties for usage in the wrong circumstances. Not sure how you would enforce it.

I would suggest it wouldn't work inside the station (or even the NFZ). If someone did manage to do that, permadeath would surely follow. Escape pods might be near-indestructible to ship-sized weaponry, but stations can probably take one out without much fuss.

I imagine the repercussions would be catastrophic for any player doing that outside of combat, within a no-fire zone. Especially when you consider it's effect on said players ratings and progression in the ED universe ;) Bounty hunting 'Terrorists' should be quite a lucrative business.
 
Make self destruct be proportional to the ship size. Eliminates throwaway Sidewinder bombs, but allows a last minute blaze of glory for your enemy. Imagine a Type 9...
