A new beginning in ED

Greetings,

i'm a returning player in Elite. Probably my story is relatively common so i briefly summarize it. I played the game from the release for more than one year. I did my share of trading, exploring at the beginning then i joined the Alliance when PP came out. That was probably the best part of my experience because the Edmund Mahon community was fantastic and i met great people there.
Anyway, after a few months of PP, i realized i was getting bored by the game (not by the people but by the game itself) I felt like i had nothing more to ask from Elite and i took a long break from ED.

A few days ago i reset my savegame and started over. I just decided to play OPEN the whole time. So far i’m enjoying the game once again, almost like the first time, but i would really like to hear from anyone who wants to suggest some hints about something interesting, challenging, intriguing to try for this “second life” in ED. I’m also very interested to hear similar stories from anyone who would like to share his/her own.

From my side i can say i like more the exploration/smuggling/mining part of the game than the trading/combat part. I’m very tempted to try and fly towards the Colonia nebula and try my luck there, as a possibility.

Thanks to anyone who reached the end of this message and to anyone who would like to answer :)

When I don't have a specific plan I generally take a Cobra out scavenging in POIs on planet surfaces. Sometimes the goods you find are legal, sometimes not ;) It's an activity I enjoy & requires no guns.

If I were ever to restart & not go for the big achievements (I am somewhat target driven so this is unlikely to last) I like to think I would scratch out a living doing this. Personally I'm not into mining but it would fit the lifestyle.

So many choices. I enjoy trying the various engineer upgrades( what I'm into now ) and grinding for more money(relaxes me ). Good luck cmdr

Welcome back Cmdr!

I re-rolled at 2.1 drop and what a breath of fresh air, has made the game new in many ways for me. Going in with the previous Cmdr file experience helps a lot. With 2.2 dropping in about a day, you should have a ton of content to play with as you once more begin your journey in Elite.

Fly safe Cmdr.

I also came back to the game after a long break recently. I only owned the base game, and did quite a few missions (which are now a lot more varied), tried out mining for about 10 million credits and participated in a couple of CG's, which finally got me a Python. The planetary content and engineering upgrades seemed interesting to me, so I decided to buy Horizons. The first thing I did after making sure I could handle planetary landings and the SRV was to go and look for the alien relics in Pleiades region near the Maia system. Definitely my favorite moments of the game so far, I just wish I had been around when they were originally found. Since then I've been trying to unlock a few engineers and begin upgrading my main ships (Asp for now). I like how the engineers have created incentive to do various things in the game that I had previously overlooked completely.

I'd be quite keen to do this, tho I'd like to join a group that Os also doing it as most people will just look at you with crazy eyes

Whilst not to everyone's taste - Ironman - reseting your save upon ship destruction - gives a whole different perspective on the game.

This is definitely an interesting challenge i could try. Since my "reset" i never died so, in a sense, i'm already on it :)

To reach the Colonia Nebula is still my top priority at the moment but i think it would take too much time to get there in a small ship, because of the limited size of the fuel scoop i could install. Maybe when i could afford an ASP explorer i will decide to move.

In the meantime there are quite new stuff to try with the upcoming patch to keep me busy.

Again thanks to anyone who answered this topic (and also the people who PM me), i'm very happy to be in this community again :)

2.2 will be released today including tourist locations and passenger missions, maybe you should start by visiting some interesting locations guided by the mission system?
