A Newbeen question!

Hi All, I've only been playing ED for a few hours and wanted to know as I'm an easy target for all those piratey people out there if I am trying to build up some credits and am not sure when to save the game (also do I only get one game save at the moment)

it's just I spent a while getting used to thing flew off into space and started to travel to another system only to be "interjected" or whatever it is and nearly killed the only thing that saved me was exiting the game with a save as I was being attacked then when I reloaded I was in space still but the baddie had gone?

is it best to save only in stations? it's just it's a bit of a pain saving in a station make a jump to another system spending 15-20 mins or so trying to get the the station and dock (bear with me :) ), only to be attacked before I get there, then the cost of repairs makes the whole trip pointless :(

any help or tips would be appreciated :) thanks Crow

Put four "pips" into your engines and boost away. More often than not your interdictor won't be able to catch you and you can jump back into supercruise and get away. Make sure to keep an eye on your temperature, though, as you can overheat and suffer damage in the run up to supercruise.

I find it best to save in the stations, that way I know I'm not going to spawn into a instance surrounded by pirates!

thanks, Crow

Thanks for helping me out Greebie :) much appreciated.

I've just got to figure out how to divert power to engines from other systems :) I did say I'm a newbee

I know in a few weeks I will be fine.

By default, hit the "up" arrow key twice to add two pips.

Don't worry, everyone was a newbie once :)

Every time you dock, jump or change instance the game will save.

So don't worry about saving too much unless your killing NPC with bounties on them for creds, just leave the game do it. If your killing the NPC save every 3-4 kills.

Don't worry about dying anyway. Just take the free ship and keep building your balance up.

Only upgrade your ship when you get to around 15 or 16k creds. Then upgrade your guns to whatever you prefer, but usually two gimballed pulse lasers is a good choice.

Then go back to making money, making sure you always have enough to cover your insurance cost (5% of ship value).

Soon enough you can upgrade to an Eagle (for combat) or the Hauler (for trading) and by that time you will more or less know what to do and how to make money quite safely.

Good luck commander! :D

Try not to exit the game when in combat, death will happen. The sooner you learn to accept that and adjust to learn from each death, the better a pilot you will be and the less the big bad universe will deter you from exploring and seeing what the game holds - its won't always be at the end points (stations, stars) btw...

Also, its a cheap tactic frowned upon by most players ;)
