A Nice Quiet Place To Call Home...

I want to go home.

This makes me realize how insignificant we are in the vastness of space.

My new home..

Is bose station on LTT15449... Anyone else hanging out there? If so do please pop in for a coffee. Bit of a wrench at the moment as not made any new friends yet and need to sort out schools for the kids. Once ive got the furniture straight i will go out and explore and maybe join the neighbourhood watch scheme...

Need help trying to get home - where ever that is

I'm currently in LHS 1933 and see no way to leave my current system.

I'm trying to find a way to get to IBootis, however the flight plan shows no route available. I can only see a route based on the amount of fuel my ship holds. Is this a game design, something that needs fixed, or fully completed? I would thought the map served as a navigation tool showing your current location and how to traverse to your selected waypoint regardless of the amount of fuel in your ship. Also, I started out several times and somehow ended up starting in this system in a Sidewinder. I thought that noobs started out in common locations and not out in the middle of war zones, etc?

Thanks

There are two selections for your route planner in the 'naviagation' tab - one for 'most economical' (routes that use jumps that take advantage of 'the long way about' to reduce cost, as long jumps cost exponentially more) or 'fastest' which shows every jump uyou can make from your current system. Also on that tab on the bottom is a slider that shows your jump range fully loaded and unloaded, and allows you to select where in that range you want it to calculate your maximum jump ranges.

However, it will not on the map show connecting lines in two instances - the jump is filtered out by those two settings (either you cannot make the jump even with a full fuel tank because of your selected load, or because it isn't the 'most economical' route), or because the area you're looking at is too far and too unexplored for the computer to make a good estimate.

If you cannot jump out of your system to -anywhere- this is likely because you jumped in with too little fuel. If you have no fuel scoop or there are no scoopable stars, you're hosed - at that point your only option is to selfdestruct and respawn, rebuying your ship with insurance, and learning a lesson about not exceeding your fuel capacity when route-planning.

That's a lesson I think everyone learns at least once <grin>

Edit - Ignore me, Elle is most likely correct.

I'm pretty sure the blue lines show all possible destinations based on your current jump distance and nothing else (but don't quote me).

Restarting doesn't appear to be completely "random" - I've restarted over and over in LHS 1914 when desperately trying to get somewhere else.

If you're really stuck, try selling a weapon or two and you'll gain jump distance.

I sold my all my weapons and it did increase my jump range, however in this system it's increasingly frustrating not being able to get leave. All the branching systems all have 'dead ends' where my ship just cant make a 10.2 LY jump to the next closest system. This is NOT a good experience for a new player starting out.

Good advice, however I've self destructed two times already and continue to get plunked into systems where every 8 out of 10 jumps are interdiction by Cobras and Eagles who have wanted postings on the bulletin board. I've had many encounters where I'm carrying nothing but fuel alone outside of my empty cargo hold in the starting Sidewinder and still get interdicted for no apparent reason. End result is that I got blown up 6 times all the same exact scenario even after I stopped and didn't fight back...even when I didn't have any weapons installed.

Is there a way for me to start in the Arcturus system where it's at least safe and every jump is not a constant stick up at gun point? Should I create a technical support ticket for this or is this the way the game is designed? Spawning in hostile war zones should not be a new players first experience.

Dealing with interdiction is something you have to learn how to do; you will get interdicted frequently, and learning to escape it is a vital skill. It has nothing to do with war zones; anywhere there are people, there will be interdictions, regardless of if the people are NPCs or players.

And 'not fighting back' is exactly the wrong answer. Don't stop, don't try to 'placate' because the NPCs will kill you regardless and players are unpredictable. Run. As soon as you can hit the FSD, fly like a drunken butterfly, and get used to escaping because if you're not going to be a lion, you have to learn to be a rabbit.

True, however this should not be the case in the very first system that a new player starts out in. They might as well just have the wanted infidels sitting out in front of the station docking ports then waiting for you.

You start in a random system, and there is nothing to make it more safe than anywhere else. You say 'should' when what you mean is 'I wish'.

There is an 'escaping interdiction' tutorial module and several combat ones. Perhaps use them to practice these skills before diving into the real game, so that you do not feel quite so unready?

I made it home !!!!

Weeks after messing around in the same 30ly sphere, I took the plunge and ventured over 190ly and docked at Lave :)

Learnt fuel scooping all over again :) Ouch don't let it drop ya outa SC or it will hurt :)

It has been 30+ years since I docked at Lave :)

Nostalgia :)

Got the bug now :)

Now fill your hold with that Lavian Brandy and haul it back the same 190 LY for a nice profit… =)

Well I have 100 tons of it in my hold for tomorrow morning.

TBH : It was what inspired me to travel was all the talk of rares and it got me off my backside to travel a bit.

Oh you poor thing! The price done crashed.... seriously. I found one place which would give 5k for it... But yeah, docking at Lave was a real moment for me too.

Oh, the system that will give 5k for it is Wolf 504 or thereabouts. Got some trade opportunities in the region too if you want to stay a while. I like good neighbors... take yer shoes off!

Apparently it's not crashed if you go outside the usual areas to sell it; someone said they managed to make their millions but only by selling it way way out of the core systems.

Was great to see the old system names, like tionisla, that I'd forgotten about.

As for the rare goods, apparently they've been adjusted in gamma 2.0

I really enjoyed the independent trader start. Starting once again at Lave with just 100cr and a basic cobra mkIII. Really brings things back. :)

It certainly feels like 'home' again from an '84 elite perspective.

Shok.

TBH I have been avoiding the Rare runs, but tonight I thought I would give it a go to see what all the fuss was about and explore a bit more of the galaxy.
