Powerplay A note on PvP in powerplay

There's another reason, there is a lack of folks interested in PvP, not many come here for that gameplay.

Not true... there are many, but most became disillusioned with the way fdev handled pvp and left for good around 2020/21. PP2 got quite a few to return (myself included) but there are still many out there that didn't see the changes as enough to draw them back...

Consider all the high profile PvP groups that are no longer around or significantly active - SDC, Nomads, Adles Armada, RSM, Venom, Prism, NATO, Continuum, Mayhem, NaCl, RoA, Top Tier, Diamond Dogs, The Code (are around but are a shell of what they were), and many more... How many of these guys would return if there was something for PvPers more than just opportunistic ganks?

Its never going to be a PvP game, its too unbalanced (long may that stay as PvP always ruins PVE), too many hackers and instancing for large battles would not work.
We've been here before, they could have implemented it with PP2, but that would have proved more complicated and likely completely messed up the game.

I was once in an instance with 25 players fighting... it worked fine. And hackers are a problem for all PvP games, having PvP-missions in the game doesn't change that nor is it a reason not to implement them.

I'm curious as to why some people are so against content for PvP players even when it would not affect their gameplay at all. We're not talking open only here, or forced content in any way... How does players engaging in PvP missions against each other in open negatively affect PvE players in solo or private groups? Is it just being anti for the sake of it at this point?

Let's not forget that PvP players have been a part of ED from the very beginning, yet are the only group of players to have not had any dedicated main game content ( CQC is a separate and very dead game). Powerplay was supposed to be that content originally if you watch the early livestreams with Sandro, but they designed it poorly and it turned into yet another PvE playground. They should fix that if they want PP to have any long-term appeal.

Just make it open only already so players are forced to cooperate directly instead of them yammering constantly about their powers "victories" after making the funny number go up without ever actually interacting with anyone in their own, or opposing factions.

Competative mechanic needs to be in the competative mode. What exactly is the point in trying to push this system when there is no reason to cooperate or fight one another?

Spreadsheet simulator is not engaging, doesn't foster community efforts outside of making funny number go up and once again, and leaves anyone who might be interested in actual space battles between players and powers out to dry.

Rebuys are literally free now, not like they have'nt been for a while to boot given how easy it is to make money.

Just throw the whole community in together and let us sort it out in-game rather than whatever the hell we have now is meant to be.

Just make it open only

Look, I'm not a big fan of telling people how to play the game, because really we all have our own preferred loops and styles.

But are you really extolling the virtues of PP in PG/Solo?

The amount of Random player activity PP 2.0 has brought us has for many revitalized the game. It's made it interesting again.

Why would you recommend ruining that?

Their gameplay is the right to affect others, but being affected is a gross violation of their free time. Or something.

Yep, thats effectively how allowing this system to work in solo or PG ends up playing out.

You either interact with the system on the solo/PG player's terms, or you don't interact with the system, which makes it ultimately pointless for a portion of the community to even look at, so back to exploding random asps instead of doing something useful it is....
