A PERFECTED GALAXY MAP.

I think I had a stroke trying to read the OP.

Let me see if I have this right. You want to give dolphins pants so they can ride the bus to liverpool to watch a game of football, but you're concerned that doing so might provoke the resident gophers into starting a communist revolution?

Bookmarks need to be replaced with Custom Labels and colors.
Also linked to a “to-do”
Notepad.

Sometimes you just want to remember a location for a silly thing and not have it rest permenantly in your bookmarks.

Then allowing for everything else to additional labels to filter under add to AND/OR or subtract from.
Like pad sizes, economy, security status etc Etc.

This gives players the ability to craft complex queries. (Poor BGS database)

Do not hide But grey out those outside the filter as you may still want to select and check.

And the these filters new to follow continuously trough into the system map and planetary map.

As back in with the FSS and orrery feedback, it all feels like “navigation” needs to be one and the same system, with.
system entity list / system map / system orrery and the fss are all the different views of the same data-set

Having an improved bookmark system is I think the desire of all explorers, however two points stand out from your post, 1) black text on black background is invisible, and 2) we currently have a maximum of around 120 bookmarks not thousands, so until this max limit if increased there's no point in making other changes, so lets get it all done at once.

Apoligise for the poor text and delayed responce,

I wasn't aware of a limit, however 120 can still be alot, allow me to explain.

Atm, there is no way to see a single bookmark alone without seeing another five, ten close by, making them difficult to locate, navigate, and order. (Theres no way to view or select them individualy) Actually without the list, you would guess which is which.

For one quiet individual it is not a big issue, solo players dont tend to have so many bookmarks, they chillout more, spend less time playing and like keeping their brains togethere however, friends wingers and squadrons love hooking up and use plenty of them for countless activities.

Why is it?.... that bookmark A, that is 5ly from bookmark B on the galaxy map, is 60 bookmarks apart from each other on the list. Its like, right next door but displayed 60 down the street!

Try find that bookmark your friend asks for in the middle of a galactic battle whilst talking to 4 or 5 other people that are at the time, talking about some random ships dropping on them throwing all the pressure down from above.

Secondly, there is no way to categorise these bookmarks and we are limited to one bookmark per system. People use them in a way that helps them corridinate key destinations for their team just aswell as theirselfs, they also use bookmark to try record services that are availble in places, the character limit when naming bookmarks and the 1 bookmark per system limit prevents listing all the services required when communicating with friends wings or squadrons.

Currently, bookmarks are the only way in game to save, record and store key information of destinations, services, missions, events and contacts that allow people to corrdinate there gameplay but that information (altho its still amazing) atm is not organised aswell as it could be which turns what should be a leading factor of the game into confusion and a small misunderstanding instead.

Players are instead creating codes in an attempt to order bookmarks manually because you cannot sort them by distance, location, activtity or by type, Atm I't feels like the alphabet is in the wrong order when it comes to bookmarks because most people dont play this game alphabeticaly, infact its played base on the place your in, in space, and how far you are from other places. Not by which letter or number is next in the line.

Why not instead of all bookmarks being blue, give players the option to colour code them there selfs, For example, A red bookmark could represent a repair restock and refuel able station, green could represent an Interstellar and so forth, there would be no harm to the game adding these small features, especially if the function was off/on capable.

Example 2, A red and green bookmark would represent repair restock and refuel able stations with a green Interstellar contact. The only part people would need to check is if the players ship fitted in the station.

Example 3, Yellow astroid shaped bookmarks could represent saved mining location.

Example 4, A bookmark shaped like a large station to represent a sation with large pads for bigger ships is another great example.

Adding a tiny bit of shape and colour to these things would simply make everything 50x easier and funner for the creative minded

Atm people are actually inventing code names for bookmarks to try represent all these services and systems at once, but one text box is not big enough.

If you saved sol, everything eles begining with S has to go beside it. (really) ?

As awesome as it is, the galaxy map system is still a little back to front, we have a map were we save locations (witch is excellelent), but it cant be ordered by distance..... A maps purpose is to show us where everything is and help us get around, not scatter it all in some random place or order which is exactly what the alphabetic list is doing atm....

We're having to do it all manualy because when it come to space and space stations, a simple bookmark title isnt enough. I know this sounds long, but I and a few others reading this have probly spent more time naming bookmarks thereselfs

If I ask you where Rome is, you could tell me instantly.... If your friend asks you where the nearest station is with refuel repair restock and an interstellar is for an Ananconda, you wont have a clue unless you memorised it already, okay for veterians but for the new kid, no way! Try memorising the galaxy, and the next 50 locations you make, find and communicate with your friends whist they also throw there galaxy in your face at the same time.

It's way to much information for a simple bookmark, the bookmarks need to be more flexible or the game will just get over complicated, maybe not for experienced players, but new players will be growning without this when exploring for the first time.

My ship wants to see whats around me, I want to be able link 2,3 or 5 locations that are ment for each other and tell the rest of the bookmarks to leave for the moment, I want to put all my mining spots in one place so I can browse them 1 at a time without going throught a nebula and a random star bookmark. I want to be able to plan a journey, set a course and go to locations easy to find for myself and steer my friends in the right dirrection so we're all ready and able to particpate in the awesome activities ELITE DANGEROUS has gave us without having to about turn because I missed a simple refuel stop. Dont want bookmarks to move and jump around when I create new locations for other activities which forces us to research through the galaxy again all for a second, third and forth time, we have programmed a feature that continuosly changes itself so you have to remapped it again again and again. Abit like the control set up :)

(which is awesome)

P. S Lastly, Why do we have to find then select a bookmark ''twice'' before being able to name it.

I'd happidly donate to the cause, I'm planning to buy into the game because of how sweet it is, But I hope you guys like this idea because I've found alot have issues with this small area, also my bad for the text earily, was abit.... zoned, I dont do forums much, new for me.

Yeah, bookmarks need work.

The main thing that bothers me is when you mouse over a system with a bookmark on it, there's no way to see what it's called. How in the heck that got past the design team and QA I have no idea, such a massive oversight.

I actually put some kind of brackets and a letter before them to try and group them, I also put the system name into them, which is sometimes marginally helpful if I'm trying to work out what the bookmark I'm looking at on the map actually is.

Not sure, but were bookmark names always editable? Maybe when they were added there was no point as it's 'just the name of the system'. Then they made them editable (a small UI change), but didn't update the view to match (larger change).

But as stated - bookmarks need some work. Personally I'd limit them down even further - maybe 20 - so that they are obviously not for use everywhere. But that would cause squeals from those who want to plot their travels through the galaxy, bookmarking every visited system. Weirdos 😝
