I'd like to see a 'plastic tarp and epoxy glue' kit in the SRV hanger - this would allow you to glue the sheet over a ruptured canopy and provide a very delicate atmospheric seal, you could only fit it from the outside in the SRV, you could mine the materials on the planet to make more sheets but the sheet would not survive fuel scooping or any combat where your hull is hit (ie your atmosphere would vent).
It would be a boon for the explorer in 'limp home' scenarios, but it wouldn't make it easy.
