Fiction A plea for reviews

Hi all

This is a bit needy, but what the hell - we're all Elite fans, right?

I just thought I'd drop a quick note to say that all of the authors - the Gollancz ones as well as the Fantastic Books ones, I'm sure - would really appreciate you taking the time to stick a review on Amazon/Goodreads/Itunes/wherever when you've finished a book.

Obviously, we'd all prefer it if it was a glowing review, 5 stars, full of superlatives etc etc - but even if you had issues with a book, please consider taking a few moments to write down your thoughts. With Amazon's (etc etc) search algorithms so based on customer response, it can make a real difference.

I'd review the ebooks as soon as I got the ones I pre-ordered :(

Nothing at all has turned up yet.

Really? the Gollancz ones?

There was a problem where Amazon US somehow managed to create duplicate - false - records for our three books. If you preordered those, you'll never get them. Have a look here:

http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=16370

But perhaps try canceling those orders and searching again? As far as I know, all of our books should now be available wherever you are... PM me or reply here if that doesn't work and we'll see what we can do...

Or, erm, after you've read them!? ;) From my consumer PoV, reviews by people who haven't read/used/consumed products are even less useful than no reviews.

Agree, I was going to review them after I've read them... no point otherwise.

Thus far, I've read Wanted and Mostly Harmless and found them quite different to each other, but both brilliant reads. I'll defintely be putting reviews up, but not sure when I'll have time before the middle of the month.

Hi Marcus,

I started an off-shoot thread on the Writers' Forum. I'm interested in your thoughts...

Personally, I won't be doing any reviews for a while - not until after I've caught up!

Started reading the first one, I will post reviews on Amazon and Goodreads and and when I get them finished.

I'll happily read all the books and review if you're happy to provide copies without charge. :p

I'm quite interested in the books from Kate, Drew and Darren so far.

Vaguely OT, but are there links to the novels somewhere that I've missed? I couldn't find anything by searching on the iBooks Store

I have read all the books now and there were 3 that stood out for me. One I found terribly difficult to read and the remainder were average. Rather than put up a bad review I will probably PM the authors individually with my thoughts.
I have to applaud the commitment all have shown. Respect.

I'm sure all the authors will appreciate feedback as long as it's constructive. Sometimes you just don't get on with a book. I've had 1* and 5* reviews of the same thing in my time. It happens.

Cheers,

Drew.

I've read Wanted, Nemorensis, and Docking is Difficult. I haven't had much time to get my thoughts down.

My favorite was Wanted. Good read all the way through. I was interested in the characters at all times.

I then read Nemorensis, which went the opposite way (how could that be?!) so far as being able to read (what?) and comprehend (you?) the story. Why? Because the portions of the story that were a narrative of the bounty hunter were interrupted constantly with those (see above) parenthesis. I almost quit the book several times. I did finish it and enjoyed the wrap up and explanation though. Just all... those... parenthesis... Aargh!

Docking is Difficult I just finished yesterday. Fun & funny story, and just behind Wanted in rank IMO.

I'm now reading Lave Revolution. Just started it and only have one question to Allen Stroud... You explained the card game, but you didn't tell us how many cards of each were in a full deck? Or maybe that's later. I generally keep to myself as I'm reading because I don't want an outside to mess up the story. (Harry Potter died, OMG!) :)

52 cards in four suites. Apologies, I should have said!

Even a bad review is welcome - it is always a new chance to learn. Fresh perspectives are the things that allow us all to develop as writers. If everyone only wrote positive reviews, the writers would soon be fooled to think that they are perfect. :)

Amazon.co.uk requires me to have bought this book trough them to write review :( But I got mine copy of Kate's Mostly Harmless trough email :)
