So what with our new octagonal neighbors popping round for a schufty I thought I'd finally get around to visiting the alien crash sites and maybe meet a working example.
The first stop was HIP 17862 and the second site found. This was the first time that I'd looked for something on a body that didn't have a marker, so it was very gratifying to fly over a ridge and actually see the thing.
Obligatory Asp shot:
I managed to arrive at night, so the growling and the glowing of the UAs was extra creepy:
Areal view just before moving on:
The next stop was HIP 17403, the third site. This site was quicker to find, but there was still quite a bit of alt-tabbing out to calculate the right heading. Also the terrain around the site is quite uneven, so finding a landing spot was tricky.
Feel that atmosphere:
Poor s. I've lost enough T-9s to know how helpless they must have felt:
There was less growling here:
What were the crew thinking as they went down? Was anyone even left alive?
Clearer areal shot:
And so on to Pleiades Sector AB-W B2-4 and the first crash site discovered. I think that I managed to make finding this site harder for myself than necessary. For future reference, just head to the Noctrach-Ihazevich Research Facility, then fly on a heading of ~240 for about 13.5 km. The site is in the canyon. If you're heading towards a capital ship then you're heading in the right direction.
There wasn't any growling here. Also no UAs.
The research facility is on the ridge on the left here. When I looked up the location of the crash sites I didn't find any mention of the facility. Still it was a convenient place to repair the ship.
So that's the crash sites visited. No hyperdiction yet.
