Hello everyone! I've been playing as a psycho Cmdr for the past week, with questionable motives, and I would like to share some tips. Hopefully this thread will help my fellow psychos out, as I've received a good deal of support.
1. Know your targets. This means knowing if they are able to run from you, and if they might put up a good fight. You can inspect their armament by going to subsystems while still in supercruise. I target weaker ships that won't put up a fight. After all, I'm a psychopath not a paladin.
2. Don't hang out too close to the main star. You'll be too close to a bounty hunter entering the system. If one or many shows up and you need to boogie, drop to normal space and high wake out (hyperspace).
3. Look for friends. Even if you want to fly without a wing, we'll warn each other when there's activity so try making a friend with large bounty players. I've made a good friend this past week teaming up together. Wings works really well and is quite enjoyable.
4. Watch your credit balance. Make sure you always have a couple rebuys, obviously.
5. Be wary of wings. A known tactic is to have a weaker bait ship lure you in and then invite stronger ships to jump in. Check their target every once in a while during combat for players joining their wing. Also look out for shieldless Eagles...
6. Situational Awareness. Keep an eye on the scanner, and use the comms panel to see the ship types that are appearing. Pythons, Vultures, Clippers, and FDL's should cause you to worry. Anacondas you can mostly ignore because they are so slow, but their mass lock range is 4.5km so be prepared for that!
7. Target Drives. Once the victim is incapacitated, an interesting conversation can occasionally occur! Leaving a message before you kill them will allow them to add you to their revenge list, if they forgot to look on their rebuy screen, by reviewing their comm logs.
8. Recognize The Slow Approach. Sometimes Cmdr's will approach you and stop their ship, while they plead for mercy. Show none! It's perfect target practice.
9. Document your kills. Either through screenshots or video, I recommend keeping track of your kills.
10. Don't Combat Log! In my opinion, if I get hunted down, I'll take the death. I can afford it, and they earned it. But, don't be afraid to run! Better to run away and fight another day.
If anyone needs help outfitting their ship for playing psycho, send me a PM and I'll do what I can. Have fun and fly safe commanders!
