A question about Imperial slaves....

This is not really about playing the game, as I don't (yet anyway) trade in them, but I am writing backstory for my character and I wanted to know, is it completely against Empire law for a minor (about fourteen in this case) to be an Imperial slave? My pilot is now grown up and a former slave, flying his own ship, but I'm writing his backstory and I don't want to inadvertently write something about him that's contrary to Imperial law.

Thank you in advance!

In typical indentured servitude the contract could be extended in case of receiving progeny during servitude, in debt bondage and serfdom the obligation can be passed on to next generation. Imperial jurisdictions have variation on how much they value person actually agreeing to submit into slavery however. Frontier mining colonies are quite different compared to Achenar for example. Not sure how it works if you are a clone or a cyborg though.

Lovely, thanks.

I assume it's not possible for someone who is already alive but not yet an adult to become a slave? Or is it, if their family is completely bankrupted?

I suppose you think a venerable approval of an Imperial consul or that of a patrician magistrate is required to circumvent some verbatim interpretations of the Imperial body of laws. This is not the case however, a matter of dependency and commitments thereof through custodianship are easily arranged with simple tribunician assistance. No pater familias insolvency is an absolute requirement, sometimes moral, political or active labour market policies are sufficient, and this can sometimes even help with the annual burden of tributes to your Lord.
