a question about long range exploration

Currently I am some 600+ light years from LHS 3447. I would like to keep going but need to know if I have to head back and dock up or can I just save and exit while in space and pick up where I left off later?

You can just exit out. You'll be right there when you log back in.

You can just save and exit and will start back roughly where you are. I'd exit super cruise first, but you don't have to.
