I have been an avid player of the Elite series for the last 30 years and I have often had a silly, pointless question rattling around in the back of my mind,.. Why snakes?

This did crop up somewhere in the forum not that long ago - I think part of the answer was along the lines of "there were a lot of them" (snakes - i.e. naming opportunites).

I thought the federal ships were snakes and imperial were birds of prey, is that still the case?

Yeah I suppose but then the same could be said for fish. Although flying around the galaxy in a Halibut MKIII wouldn't be as fun!

Speaking to David it was because they were exciting sounding and there was a good variety of them.
