I was considering picking up a DK2 over the summer and the prospect of experiencing this game in VR is exciting to no end, but I'm not sure if my mid range gaming laptop will be able to deliver the awesome experience I'm hopinh for. Right now I'm running an i5 with a Geforce 840M and get around 45 - 55 fps on average with medium/high settings, though that tends to drop in the 30s when I'm in space stations or asteroid fields. What I'm wondering is if using the Rift produces a noticeable performance hit, and whether playing Elite with it would be viable with my setup.

Oculus has released the hardware specs for the CR (from http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/05/this-is-the-pc-hardware-youll-need-to-run-the-oculus-rift/):
NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
