A Question For The PvP and PvE Players About Combat Ranking

Should there be 2 kinds of Combat rank?

IE: A PvP one and one for PvE?

I don't see why not myself. They are two different skills of the same overall type, right?

What are the downsides?

There would be no trouble, except that some people would want to call one more important than the other. Plus, the PvP types can get their ranking in the Arena. This, although ok with me, would amount to pandering to the poor put upon PvPers out there.
 
We have one, it's called cqc ;)

Seriously it'd be more useful to have the number of player kills displayed (as a rank) than the current PvE combat rank.

However fundamentally I'm not in favour of encouraging farming players an that might be your ideas biggest stumbling block.
 
I'd be fine adding a PvP combat rank.

Providing it was displayed to all who scan you.

And goes down if you kill a CMDR that is 2 or more ranks lower than yourself. :D

We don't need a second rank which is exclusively available to players with an interest in direct PvP.

The CQC rank is more functional as a PvP rank anyway. Since it only represents fair fights and groups of players can't easily grind it by taking turns to kill each other. All it needs is to be changed so that your rank score goes down when you lose, so that a high CQC rank would be fully representative of skill rather than playtime.
 
The forums have been tame lately. If we're to avoid this tumbling web of mediocre pleasantry and feeling of oneness, this new ranking system the OP proposes is a must have!

If instead of a Cmdrs NPC Combat rank you see a rank related to their PvP skill it would give you a better indication of how much of a threat they represent to you. However it would encourage player farming.
 
CQC is trash though. The fixed guns have almost as much aim assist as gimballed in the main game. The flight model is extremly toned down and it's like flying a drone in Call of Duty. On top of that, it's not even about skill, the Deathmatch mode is all about boost sperging around and stealing kills while TDM is all about ganging up before enemy gangs up and spawn killing them over and over again before they manage to regroup. Add stupid power ups on top of that.

A CQC elite title is completly worthless and has no value in the main game because CQC is completly different from open PVP.
No rank has value to be honest. Nobody ever looks at ranks except PVEers when they feel like comparing their participation awards. Especially in this era of skimmers, sothis robigo quince, engineers, the ranks may as well be removed at this point.

Nothing in-game. We already have decent indicators on the GCI main PVP discord, KOS list and ranks for people, and pretty much everyone knows each other anyway. There's the function to search up a person's name, which will bring up his stats (discord bots track kill history, ranks of their prey, deaths, low/highwake ratios, from in-game logs... and even if someone doesn't upload their log, the bot will write down the entries from other people's logs that are related to them to the stats too).

Separate kill counts against players and NPCs used to be displayed in the HUD - which suggests that Frontier consciously removed them.
 
No, because the combat ranking is meaningless in both.

Like srs bsns, what's even the point outside their historic value?

Don't be a joiner. Joining a power just gives a bunch more people a new, good reason to shoot at you. o7
