Proposal Discussion A Question On Slavery

In the old Elite games having destroyed another ship and finding the NPC captain take to the lifepod, I could scoop it up. So my question is two bits really.

1 Will we be able to scoop up real players we have defeated who took to the lifepods?

2 How about when a player is captured, he/she has to pay for their freedom first?

If the slave has been sold at a system which accepts slaves, that slave must buy his/her freedom and pay any fines due, before buying another ship.

If not sold but kept in the cargo hold as a trophy (preferably in Carbonite), the slave would have to pay the winning Captain in order to be freed, at the next space dock.

1. No, they are insta magically transported back to their last station or nearest station can't remember which it is..
2. No facility for player capture as yet... so scooping up NPC's is definitely in the game :D..

I think it would add a brilliant dynamic if real players could be scooped up and then had to wait until their captor got to a port.

It'd be very cool to have a ransom element in the game, because assassin's get paid a bounty to destroy a ship, players can set a bounty against other players if they were victims of crime etc, so why not add an extra dynamic into it. Here's an extra bounty, destroy his/her ship then capture them and sell them into slavery.

The problem with that is if I had say.... Darren Grey in my hold, I may just keep him there scooping fuel from suns... just to stop him writing any more books...

SO It would be awesome I TOTALLY agree but ultimately wouldn't add fun to the player captured (unless escaping was possible)..

This may be in the DDF archive

I recall DB mentioning in one of the Dev Diaries, that once personal movement is available (i.e. space walk, walking around docking stations) of the possibility of players stowing away on another players ship.

When they have that functionality in, players capturing players is a natural progression.

I think so too, but still has issues for interesting game play..

OH this is fun.. in a cargo tube.... *whistles* oh great my captor has logged off.. faan bloomin tastic!!!

hahahaha

Yeah, I was thinking something similar.

I expect capture may only last while both players are online. To free yourself you log out and log on again and you wind up back at your last port of call as if your life pod worked as expected.

A very interesting game dynamic I look forward to seeing.

I don't - imagine the "boot on the other foot" for a moment: You're playing happily when my gang of hardy pirates comes along, blows up your ship and before you can get away one of the anaconda's (that flies with us to hold all the booty :D) scoops you up ... we're on a long 48 hour marathon session and we're really good at this game ...

In your scenario you're stuck in jail, unable to do anything, waiting until we dock .. which we won't do just to annoy the captives.

Still sound fun ?

Yes it does. I mentioned Ransom, so there could be a payments table for captured players to have to pay ransom to be freed. Alternatively as was mentioned, breaking free of confinement. Slaves in the original games were held in cryo. So assume the cryo faults and revives the captive, enabling them to hide on the ship as a stowaway (walking around), waiting for an opportune moment to sabotage the ship, forcing it to head to a port for repairs. The excapee could then plan to sneak off the ship. If it was me, I'd go find a space suit and air supply, sabotage all the other suits and any small craft in the hold, destroy the life support by taking some essential parts away and let you all asphyxiate. Then I'd be the proud owner of an Anaconda, any small ships carried and cargo, plus a load of dead pirates.

It would make an interesting addition to the game if they could make a decent balancing system for it but that my personal opinion :p

Sorry I do not agree with you.

There are certainly game-play elements to be had, I don't doubt that, and for a single player game the opportunities are endless, but in MP the dynamics are very different. As a pirate, with valuable cargo, I would simply post a PC guard ..

A possible scenario:

An Anaconda transport is minding its own business, heading in-system to one of the inner worlds. It is being followed by Cmdr. Liqua, a pirate of no small renown, with a history of taking ownership of what does not belong to him and unlike the A-Team charged with crimes he most certainly did commit, who has a mind to relieve this little beauty of her cargo. Unknown to him, and masked by the proximity to her hull, a flight of Sidewinders with magnetic landing gear, are attached to her hull. Too late does Cmdr. Liqua realise his error, as he lines up for a strafing run, to look on in horror as half a dozen heavily armed escorts appear as if from no where to block his path.

Absolutely nothing to do with your escaping slave, soon to become liberator scenario, but I thought it interesting all the same. ;)
Perhaps Cmrd. Liqua was on his way to save this colleague of his, and the slave had already fought his way on board one of the Sidewinders, shortly after sabotaging the landing gear of the others so they cannot detach, and the two of them proceed to scuttle the Sidewinder.

Or Dry Hump your ship with theirs..

Either way its going to be a laugh.. IF WE EVER Decode your pilot's name... what was it again....? Commander???

That would really appeal to all of the griefers out there - scoop victim's escape pod with alt ship, send alt ship off on an unending journey for a few days....
