Newcomer / Intro A question to Fleet Carrier owners

I'm about to buy my first FC (and the last one). I'm planning to buy at least refuel/restock/repair/shipyard options.
Mostly I'm planning to use FC to keep mined minerals/metals to sell it for a good price. I'm not planning to travel to Colonia etc. yet.
What else do you do with your FC in the bubble?

When in the bubble, my FC is good for a lot of things!

  • The obvious one, it carries my fleet. Very handy to have all my ships in one place that I can move around as I work in different systems.
  • Also very useful for running large volume cargo for missions or BGS. Beyond around 3-4 T9 loads I find it more efficient to park FC next to the source station, load up, then jump FC next to destination station to unload.
  • Good to have a repository of found items that you don't immediately need. Escape pods, stolen goods for black markets, tech broker commodities for unlocks, for example.
  • Save yourself extremely long SC trips. If I have some errands 100k+ ls from arrival, might queue up a FC jump directly to the destination planet, either before a bathroom break, or while I wrap up another mission or two.

Just a note, if you don't have a group you're playing with, you can save yourself a lot of money by skipping the shipyard module. FC owners can store their ships without a shipyard, so it's only needed if you want to enable other players to store their ships on your FC too.

Oh, good to know, thanks. I play solo.

Another question:
Should I allow other commanders to use my FC (I play solo)? Is there any advantage/disadvantage allowing it or not?

I've 99% of the time leave it as allowing everyone to dock & use services except specific squadron missions as you have nothing to lose. If you want to you can add a levy to the services (but I don't) and I, myself, have also benefited magnificently from many CMDRs do the same during my long trip to the black, Colonia etc in my Cobra MK3, Anaconda's! I think of carrier as a community station/respite in uninhabited space in the black!

refuel/restock/repair: ok, you will need when out there.
shipyard? Not so much, not worth it in my opinion. Do you picture players coming to your FC to buy ships? I don't for mine.
I bought my FC this week, and Im using a high-range taxi for the bubble and as a base of operations.
Other commanders use it to load/unload commodities, its something that I want to try one day (https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteTraders is filled with these FCs).

I don't see any disadvantage in allowing, it's not like their mass is added to the jump calc making the jumps more expensive.
