A question to WMR users..

I've been kicking around the idea of getting the Lenovo Explorer since the only game I play in VR is Elite. What happens when your monitor when you flip the visor up? Does it center the view or does it follow the headset? In other words, when you need to type something into, say, the Galmap search box how does that work?

Sincerely,

Another commander who tired of looking thru the nose crack...:D

The window on the monitor is a replica of the headset view. So when you flip up, it does. I tend to take it off to view monitor, it goes on and off quickly. Text is readable with it on though.
P.s I think it is very good, for the price it can't be beaten

This ^^ or practice touch typing, mine's improved a lot.

Not that good though, I still need the nose crack for finding the snacks.

I think I read that in Windows 10 1809 they introduced the 'flashlight' feature that shows a view from the headsets camera projected onto the vr view so you can see your keyboard or desk without lifting the headset. I am still on 1803 so I can't test it myself and don't know whether it is good enough to type with.

No, it wasn't intended for that. It basically is like looking thru night vision goggles with poor resolution. I think you have to point one of the controllers around like you're using a flashlight.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I tend to slide headset up slightly, rather than flip the screen. Once my hand is in position I can touch type. This is easy to do and get back into position.

I need to remap keys to the hotas so I do the above less.

Considering how many have no issues with that, bad luck I'd say. For $99 I'd try some epoxy or super glue...

And yes, I'm well aware of Lenovo's suck service.

More than luck, I think it has more to do with the cheap plastic they started to use on their products since 2012 as thinkpad users suggested in and outside this forum.

You're not going to spam your link every time "lenovo" or "wmr" are mentioned, are you?

Nope, even though it would be the least for how I have been treated by their support.
That said, I only correct false statements like yours because a potential customer has no way to assess the quality of the materials of the product in question.

For the record, in USA that dung plastic thing is cheap, in Japan it is not.

Suppose voice attack or similar is one thing for hands free controls when wearing a VR headset, but i never considered the typing aspect. Has always been a bit of a put off for me to splash out on VR. Shame some kind of dictatorial software couldn't be thrown into it. It may already exist for all i know. sorry, i have no idea.

I used the flashlight feature and you are correct that the res is quite shocking however it responds to the headset, not the controller.

Okay, the descriptions I had seen said it responded to the controller like a flashlight. Now all of us redneck VR pilots can see who we're handing our beer to...
