a quick gush about flak.

So now we have the remote release flak cannon and while nice for battling thargons I have found a much better use of them blasting shield-less NPCs and SLFs

Finally aegis produced something worthwhile!

ping. beep beep beep BEPBEPBEP-BOOM!

I just love it. we really need not only gimballed variants but also small and large variants. I want to make a flak corvette!

OH!

and we neeeed engineering for them asap!
as well as synthesis!

EDIT!

Nobody told me an entirely new weapon type had been added. This is unacceptable... and intriguing. I demand video, pictures, and specs! Details, glorious details!

First video in GluttonyFang's thread should give you a first impression.

If you've used editors before, it should be easy to get into. I've never (well, apart from that Apple stuff lots of years ago) used any and could at least do what I wanted.

This is in my opinion, the best weapon they've added in years (probably since railgun introduction) — because it works mechanically different from the normal pull+trigger=shoot.

I managed to take out the Thargons with the flak a minute ago... but the cyclops is too tough for a single FDL... I escaped with 7% hull...

BTW. I remmember I could synthesise the missiles and now i cant synthesise them anymore... is this intended?

Wow, that looks like areally cool weapon, is it anti thargoid only, or is it effective against human ships aswell?

Looks like it could demolish multiple hardpoints quickly with the aoe it has!

Any info on if it has any engineering upgrades, or none at all so far?

Thanks for the info. I'm quite annoyed they only have 32 shots. I thought FDev has finally gotten over their silly obsession with ultra-limited ammo when they gavemore to rails.

Glad to hear about this. Only thing in videogames better than pressing a button is holding a button down and then letting go at the right moment. Still waiting for my Megaman-style "charge shot," though.

I find it hilarious how so many commanders didn't even know these new flak cannons were even a reality in the game now!

It's ironic too, because I didn't know they were a thing in the game now....[uhh]

With my gunship loaded with flaks I needed six shots to kill a swarm. I missed two completely. I dont think we're supposed to farm them for hours on end like in a RES... :p

It's not specifically an AX weapon, and giving more ammo wouldn't have really improved its performance in the anti-thargoid role. All gimping its ammo does is limit its utility in other roles. I'm off the staunch opinion that severely limited ammo reserves is a dumb way to balance things. All it does is limit who can use the weapon, and give advantages to gankers over PvE players.

Best weapon in the game so far!

But havent really thought of using it against pirates or other Cmdrs, maybe i'll go do that later :)

You got it all wrong. This is a fireworks celebrity popper! :D

About it's efficiency and yield:
If you wait for a second before releasing the trigger, you are already safe out of the blast radius.

But if you release the trigger after firing, first shot with Shields Offline takes 2% hull, in this example (Lightweight armor RAsp).

Releasing the trigger immediately after firing even takes 10% hull.
