Powerplay A quick refresher?

Hi All!

Been in the game since the start as a founder but I kind of breezed through Powerplay when it was first introduced - frankly found it not my cup of grind :p.

But I have decided to give it another go, and I would like to ask if there is any site / resource online providing a Powerplay 101 type of thing.

I have googled and found tonnes of stuff as expected from such a dedicated community but any suggestions most welcome.

Goes without saying that anyone can lock / delete this thread if I have missed something already in this sub-forum

My shortest mechanical explanation is that Powerplay is an area-control board game where the turns are simultaneous and last a week.

The longer explanation is that each power is basically a street gang in space working to advance the personal agenda of that power's leader. They do so each cycle via a variety of actions that include both hauling and shooting. On the side the powers work for or against minor factions to make hauling and shooting easier for themselves and harder for their opponents.

I acknowledge a huge amount of bias here, but for the most part Powerplay is stagnant at the moment. Most powers are unable to expand any further, and taking space off your opponents is fairly difficult. We at Winters underwent a big shrink last February to try to fix the situation for ourselves; we're in the process of growing again but as I said, it ain't easy. We're having a lot of fun though!

I can answer more questions you may have if you're looking to join one of the Federal powers, I'm sure others will come along from other groups if you're more interested in those. I definitely recommend looking for the player group for your preferred power; Powerplay is simply more fun with friends.

Last note: for the most part the player groups are not big on role play; many of the mechanisms of Powerplay and especially for BGS related to Powerplay run counter to RP. Powerplay is not actually a great way to immerse yourself in the lore of ED.

Thanks for this, makes sense at high level so great summary, noting the potential bias :)

I am also asking if there was an online resource with a sort of 101 explanation of mechanics and approach to recommend for someone wishing to give it a go.
