A rather odd question about Flightstick/Throttle

I have the original X-52 that must be very close
to 10 years old now, It works, but one of the switches
doesn't work anymore and is also becoming slightly flaky
in it's old age.
I would like to buy the HOTAS Warthog, but do not want to
pay that much for it.
I am thinking of just buying the Warthog Flightstick itself,
not including the Throttle.
My question is, Since the X-52 Throttle seems to work in
the control panel with the X-52 Stick Disconnected,
would using the X-52 Throttle AND the Warthog Stick together work??
Has anyone else done anything similar?

I haven't tried something like that, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Your computer will see them as two different devices. Should be no different than using rudder pedals instead of a twist joystick.

If the pc sees them as 2 devices then it should work. My Warthog throttle and stick are listed as 2 unique devices and the stick works even if the throttle is not plugged in

If I remember it correctly, X52 is 10 bit resolution? There is a huge difference between 10 and 12 bit regarding throttle operation. I used to have such trouble hovering choppers in BF2 using Cougar, until I put in my own Drop In Hall (DiH) sensor in the throttle running 12bit resolution. The throttle in Warthog, on the other hand, uses 2x MLX90316 Hall sensor chips with 14 bit resolution (same chip as the one I used in DiH). You will see night and day difference between 14bit and 10bit.

If you could afford it, go with the Warthog throttle. I wouldn't skimp on this one.

You could also maybe just splice them together. Maybe even do a little restoration/maintenance on it. Make a fun evening out of it (well fun for me at least)

You bought an X-52 and it lasted 10-years and now you're about it. My X-52 has lasted almost 10-years now and I've used it for thousands of hours. If you think about it, the cost of the joystick/throttle combo compared to how many hours of gameplay you got out of it; well it's pretty darn good. I've spent more money on things that have lasted less time. I really can't fault Saitek for their hardware, and their customer support has been topnotch.

Rmorti. the 13th word in your post, if it implies that he is complaining about his X52 I do not think he is. It pleases me that my 52 may last 10 years. Out of interest what did you need customer support for? I presume a software problem

Correct, I was not about it as you say,
I am glad it lasted this long. Just saying it's about time to
retire the Stick at least.
Thanks for the input guys, I may very well buy the Warthog
Throttle as well in the near future, was just wondering about the
feasibility of using different Throttle and Stick in the interim.

Oh, well many years ago I bought the original X-52; I was playing an online WW2 flightsim called Warbirds and that game really tested the durability of my joystick and throttle. At some point, my throttle crapped out and I just couldn't get it to function. I wrote Saitek and they sent me replacement parts along with instructions on how to replace the part. It worled and I was so impressed with the company that when the time came to upgrade I bought the X-52 PRO. Let me just add that I'm not very impressed with their software and have always just used it as a plug and play device; however in that capacity it has been a superb joystick and so have their rudder pedals. I don't use the rudder pedals in ED, but they got their use flying an FW-190 Wurger.

As to the OP, I'm sorry if I gave you grief; it was wrong of me to come off on you like that and I'm sorry. However, I think for this game that the X-52 PRO is more than sufficient and the warthog is a costly overkill. However; if you tire of this and decide to pursue flightsims then perhaps the warthog is the way to go for you. Personally, i find the X-52 pro has all the buttons I need for this game.

No problem Mate, Apology accepted.. :)
Yeah now I am thinking about the X-52 Pro, what about the X-55? That stick seems nice as well.

Hi,

Sorry to be negative but the X52 pro has a terrible reputation for the build quality and the reliability of it's components.8-((

I have one and when it is working it is a great stick but mine died as a lot of others have reported within 3 months...

Madcatz is the support agent now and their support is dire, so be warned.

If you purchase one get it from a big supplier such as Amazon so that you can return it for replacement or credit to them not Madcatz.

Also check out the reviews for the stick.

I don't think you'll have a problem mixing the stick and throttle, but I'm not sure you can buy the TM Warthog throttle by itself. I've seen the joystick listed alone, but not the throttle. I'd check on that before moving forward. Getting the set is well worth it. you won't believe the difference.
