I'm generally not a fan of online multiplayer games (Unreal Tournament / left 4 dead being the only exception)
The reason is that I find that players online are so good that anybody new just gets hammered or you get the gamers that just say abusive things to others. I once tried Battlefield as a newcomer and gave up after an hour because as soon as i spawned I was just smashed again and again.
I know it is because I am a casual gamer that this is obviously the case but this is why I really like Elite Dangerous. I have a family and can only play games on and off for short periods of time these days (mainly late at night when I've put the kids to bed).
I think Elite puts off some of those multiplayer godlikes who own everything and do not give casual gamers a chance. I believe it is because to get anything good in the game you have to put some serious hours in and graft (which can be tedious but very rewarding too) You cannot just have the best ships and weapons without a serious amount of work. I guess this puts off the multiplayer trolls who want all the weapons and ships and just want to destroy everything in their path and spoil any standard gamers like myself from enjoying the game. I guess another plus being it is such a large universe I can now see the reason that this works in favour because human encounters are quite rare.
Every time I have seen another human in Elite , it has been really enjoyable and it feels more like a sense of respect between other human players, which is such a positive. When I first started I came up face to face with another human in a far better ship than mine, he or she could have wiped me out with a touch of a button but instead they let me go on my way after a nice conversation.
very happy with this game, I don't play anything else anymore. I have a serious rig that runs all the high end titles GTA, FarCry etc however those games have been shelved as far as I'm concerned! me + oculus + elite (I'm set for my gaming needs)
