Wife (asking in a casual and disinterested way that I know is disingenuous): What would you like to get for Christmas?

Me (without hesitation): Titan X Pascal GPU.

Long pause as she sips her coffee.

Wife: How about socks?

ahahahahahahhaha Love that movie! :D and yes Elite in the CV1 is my Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and "this thing which tells time"

Hehe, so true.

Mine tolerates me in Elite so long as its after dark and the kids are safely away from the "extreme violence computer games always have". Granted that's true with WarFrame :p

She won't even put the Rift on to see what I'm seeing, so low is her opinion of my hobby. But then, my Birkin put her off a lot of my hobbies (no roof, no doors, too fast, too loud, gives her allergies, nothing to hold on to - NO NOT THE HANDBRAKE!!!).

Not sure what a Birkin is...

But that sounds a bit sad - I would make her look lol! My wife is no gamer but VR fascinates her she actually loves it and is really excited about! Just motion sickness is a thing for her unfortunately... so she cant enjoy most games...

Funny you should say that, I just installed one as an upgrade yesterday. I went from this...

VR test on old Titan GTX - Nvidia driver 373.06.jpg

To this...

VR test on new Titan X Pascal- Nvidia driver 373.06.jpg

My Vive arrived today. It's low res and blurry compared to my monitor but, man, it's immersive. I love it!
The older CPU is OC'd to 4.5 Ghz and coping well for its age too.

congratulations on your vive! do check up all the threads on improving the quality (especially the render multiplier, can be changed directly in elite come 2.2)

Give it a couple of generations, a stylish form factor and the ability to shop online and talk to their friends and the non gamer/techies will come flocking in their droves, harping on like they invented it. Was the same with pc's, the internet and then smartphones. My stock answer when asked what the hell I'm doing with that weird thing on my head - "I'm building your future"

Thanks Craith. I still grin a lot as I put it on and get out of the chair to look around my cockpits and I've head-butted my wall once when going outside my VR boundaries. :)

I currently have "renderTargetMultiplier" set to 2.0 and Allow Re-projection On, with ED set to VR-High for a smooth frame rate hitting a max of 75-80% on the graphics card. Setting anything a little less or a little more than 2 makes the screen-door effect more pronounced and turning re-projection off causes a stutter-fest with the multiplier at 2.

The Beta is happiest on VR-Medium. If I set VR-High here it stutters in stations, not too badly, but enough to annoy even though neither the CPU or GPU appears to be maxed out.

CPU barely breaks a sweat at any time so I'm glad I spent the budget on the Titan and headset, not on a complete system upgrade. Also, with the Titan being entirely hidden, no one is any the wiser that my move to VR took more than just buying the headset :)

Roll on Avatar creation, Its a little disconcerting to look down at the emaciated 5' 5", 10 Stone weakling instead of the 6' 1", 17 Stone reality :)

I always grin when I put it on ... and my computer is just the bare minimum to play Elite in VR (some would say it is well below the minimum). I can only imagine how much it will improve when (not if) I get a better graphics card. I can be patient though. For a while ...
