>> A second hand ship market<<

In certain types of systems and starports, instead of the brand new costly ships we buy in stock condition. Why not have a second hand market, where you can pick up bargain price ships with a certain risk behind them?. Similar to an old classic Gran Turismo 3, where you could pick up older models at bargain prices instead of buying new from the dealer.

In a second hand dealer, you can pick up a ship, the types would be limited, and variable like a consumer market, with a mixture of grades of modules installed. So lets say you could find an Asp, an ok explorer set up one, or a combat or trade set up one. The only risk is that the hull integrity and modules already have mileage. Again this would reflect the price.

Example 1; A mixed C and D rated Asp, with around 50% hull and module integrity would set you back 3 million.

Example 2; A mixed A and B rated Conder with 30%hull and module integrity, and maybe even the markings of a wanted criminal in certain factions systems would be yours for 50 million.

The point would be you would be able to buy more ship for your money, do whatever your trade would be in it for limited cash.

Once your cash builds up you could repair and improve as normal. To get rid of wanted status pay the old fines.

In all, like todays used car mrket, you can get a gem, or a banger, or even a ringer and the cops take it away.

Oh absolutely. How do I +10 rep you? Also, when you said "Conder" I thought you mean the (F63) Condor. Well, anyways, I completely agree.

The ships are already second hand.
As for discount for damaged ships, unless the discount was less than the repair cost there would be no incentive for the shipyard to sell them when they could fix the ships up themselves and sell them for full price.

I've also thought about this. But as pointed out, it makes no economic sense within the game unless there was some sort of irreversible wear and tear mechanic that would correlate with permanently reducing the value of a ship over time/use... Which would require revamping a whole set of other existing game mechanics.

Having said that though, if it were really thought through, it could add some really interesting depth to ship ownership.
