A severe shortage of aliens

And if there is intelligent life out there IRL what's to say they're any more developed than us technologically? If they're on the opposite side of the galaxy we may never encounter them if FTL travel prices impossible.

If we are only ,what is it? 2% different in dna then apes , then i would be glad tey are on the other side of the galaxy if tey had 2% more as us , seeing what we do with animals...

I would like to see someone who is good at Maths give a fair probability for intelligent life developing on an earth like or other type (current thinking is there may be some kind of life on Comets) of planet.

Whales of course :), oh and dogs...

We don't have any concrete numbers to work with, so it's all just guess work. That being said, you can look at the history of Earth to see what the likelihood of finding even primitive animal life is by examining how long it took for different types of life to evolve. For most of Earths history, it was inhabited by single cell life forms that we would recognize as either goo or rocklike structures. Mega fauna only appeared in the last few hundred million years. Ergo, if we did find life, it would most likely be the super dooper unsexy kind that you would need a microscope to see. Not sure how much that would add to the game without a microscope mini-game? This is assuming ideal Earth like conditions and an age of the planet that similar to ours.

We can also go by game lore... Part of the reason the Federation was formed was to protect indigenous life from rampant slaughter by unruly colonists. So yes there should be critters skittering around some % of Earthlikes in a more fully fleshed out version of planet landings. Full blown civilizations? Or intelligent life? Idk. It depends on how the game evolves and on Brabens own philosophical leanings on ETs.

you already find "indigenious lifeforms" on earth-likes... and some rare goods produced by alien lifeforms... so, when planetary landing is possible...

I have found several worlds will life including gas gaints. I have even found a few earth likes way out in the deep. Yep I'm one of those annoying explorers that travels out beyond the bubble of humanity. I don't even know what all this power thingy is about as I've been gone since before the 1.3 came out. :D

Lucky. I left shortly after 1.3 came out so that I could wait for 1.4 to come round, still did a bit of 1.3 though.

It's inconceivable that out of 400 billion star systems that there would only be 2 forms of intelligent life.
Anyone else agree?

It is rumoured that there is no intelligent life in the galaxy whatsoever.
There is a virtually hairless ape on the third planet from the Sun that seems to come reasonably close, but the ghastly creature seems determined to poison the planet it lives on and destroy itself.
Therefore I don't think I would count that loony beast as truly intelligent.

The intelligent life is all of those species who have picked up all our radio transmissions and chosen not to answer.

This right here if I let my cynicism flow freely.

As a race we are selfishly self-centered, war-mongering, delusional monkeys without a care.

Aside from the fact our radio transmissions are probably no more than just static noise after a certain distance I would imagine, anything that HAS picked us up and found us has chosen to stay away from us.

Find a different form of life, even without intelligence, would already be an event

You mean like Gas giant with water-based life? :)

But wait, who's to say that they're better than us?

Too many aliens will dilute the impact of the thargoids which we know are coming.
Yeah, but 1-3 more wouldn't hurt anything, heck it could simply be small 'hubs' of inhabited alien space about in deep space, maybe for extreme long range trading? or what have you?

well that's where it gets interesting doesn't it? :p

Do we avoid them knowing they are just as likely to turn on us as they are on each other?
Do we make contact with them in hopes we can make them better more "civilized" like ourselves?
Or do we simply accept the knowledge that yes we are not alone but this particular race is not one are best making contact with in the first place. Let them stumble upon us not the other way around.

Well, one of them was stupid enough to get in contact with us and we attacked first and used biowarfare against them.

A sure sign of intelligence is that everyone else stays away from us primitive space apes.

Well there was intelligent alien life found in the Ed galaxy, but when FD trialled planetary landings all the players swamped the planets and squashed them underfoot. Those that survived were mistaken as asteroids and had their innards removed by overzealous miners .....
