So as I turned up at a USS and picked up a black box I got this message, now the local station won't let me access Search and Rescue services. There are no other messages or notes in mission window. How do I get rid of this blackbox? Did I need to reply at the time.

Yes, you needed to accept the mission in your inbox. You can just dump it, a black market might take it.
