A ship for a frustrated Bounty Hunter.

So i am really into the role of Bounty Hunting in this game. I know its not the most profitable but its definatelly the most fun and interacting IMHO.

But the game does not help you much when it comes down to it. And i'd like to keep having a profit while hunting for bounties.

I currently have a Viper with 2x Fixed Beam Lasers (C4) and 2x Gimballed Multi Cannons (C2)

I also have my beloved K-Warrant scanner, a FSD interdictor, FSD wake scanner, upgraded power distribution and thrusters.

I want to know if there changing to a Cobra Mk III is worth it.. Because currently i cant seem to find any good bounties. I've had a encounter with a lot of players (which was pretty amazing, made some friends) but other than that im wasting more money than anything else...

I'd also like to know if the Cobra has just as expensive refuelling than the Viper.

Either that or hints on where to get bounties.

Thanks in advance!

Well first, a Cobra won't get you any more bounties if you don't find them.

I'd say those are two very different ships in terms of how you fight in them. The Cobra is a bit more nimble and survivable, while the Viper is faster with more fire power but lacks turning advantage over other small craft. If you're hunting Cobras and Sideys you need to employ the proper tactics to win consistently against the more deadly pilots.

From what I hear you're best served by bounty hunting in high-activity systems where players are having more interactions - the more interactions there are the more likely you are to see Wanted players in my experience. Quiet systems may only have traders. As a bounty hunter, your targets are going where the other ships are, so you should too.

Dump the Viper, it has been nerfed to the ground. Get a Cobra. Cobra can also be fitted for trading if you actually want to make a profit and get ASP/Type 6 some day.

Where are these systems usually?

Also, seriously awesome profile picture

Right now the core starting systems (around Eranin) are bristling with all the new players figuring out the game. It would be generous of you to give them some interdiction and combat training...

I shaved my full beard to go as Ron Swanson for Halloween. Bask in the glory.

If you want to keep the Viper, I found the nav beacons around Styx, Eranin, and Aulin to be good hunting grounds lately. I've stored my Viper last week because I'm frankly sick of the level of the nerf done to it and gone to the Cobra. I couldn't tell you about fuel prices because I got a fuel scoop on it but I'm still finding lots of bounties in the named systems.

Also if you are looking for Anacondas to kill with higher bounties, I Bootis nav beacons are a good hunt as well. I personally wouldn't try that unless using the Cobra.

I love the Cobra, and find the Viper generally pointless unless you enjoy head-on jousting. An upgraded Cobra turns well - not as well as an upgraded Sidewinder or Eagle but it's close. I only have class C or B (I forget) thrusters in my Cobra and can get it up to 404 in speed (with boosting). With an upgraded power unit/core and distributor I am able to maintain that speed through quick sequential bursts - 4 or so in relatively rapid succession. So I have pretty good speed and great maneuverability. PLUS - great jump range and much more cargo than a Viper. So yes, I think the Viper is a bit pointless currently.

Since Beta 3 I tried bounty hunting seriously for the first time (got a K-Warrant scanner) and found it more profitable than expected. The best places seem to be the Nav beacons of Anarchy systems, where there are no police ships to steal your kills. (Just make sure the system has a station for cashing in the local bounties.) An one-hour session earns about 100K, and usually my cue for finishing is when my multi-cannons run out of ammo. I use a Viper because I needed a change from the Cobra.

I've done alot of bounty hunting since the interdiction module came out, hours of it. The best place to run is in super cruise, looking out for big bounty ships. Most of it I did in an eagle, fit for interdiction, a shield cell, a wake scanner, 2 lasers and a multi. I have a cobra too, but really prefer the eagle. It's alot easier keeping jump range up in an eagle, and losing a souped up one won't cost the earth. The only 2 ships i can't really take are the clipper and the conda. If you do go eagle, use the wake scanner, not the k warrant. You'll lose more to jumped out ships, and it's alot of fun chasing them through 3 systems before finally getting that bounty, and you'll feel like you earned it too :)

I used to love the Viper But in latest update was struggling in it for Bounty - I don't regret upgrading to the Cobra for example on one Gold mission which took less than 8 minutes I made 174k it also can be used quite effectively in combat too with all the upgrades even thou I am not good at combat at least the odd brilliant Big buck missions makes all the difference

Wise words, repped ;)

So i eventually got the cobra.. Its nice and all with the cargo space...

But i came back to the viper, mainly because of the fact EVERYONE flies cobras, i felt just like another one in the amidst..

Thank you all for sharing your experiences, i also managed to find good enough bounties by searching for killer hunter bulletins, really appreciated
