Engineers A Short Statement on High Grade Signal Sources

1) High Grade Signal Sources aren't that rare as long as you fly around in deep space in outbreak systems. Remember to pray to RNGesus. When you're looking for these signal sources try traveling at just under 1c around 150-250 light seconds away from the main star in deep space.

2) A lot of people post questions about where to find pharmaceutical Isolators, Core Dynamics Composites, and Imperial Shielding. A lot of people answer those questions with "Just go into encoded emissions" sources. Although
these materials CAN appear in encoded emissions don't count on it. If you're looking for rare signal source materials GO INTO HIGH GRADE EMISSION SOURCES and ignore the other signals.

3) Imperial shielding only appears in imperial systems. Core dynamics composites only appear in federation systems. Pharmaceutical isolators can appear in EITHER of these factions' systems.

4) High Grade Signal Sources CAN Spawn in systems that are not in outbreak. Signal sources also appear more frequently depending on the population of the system you're in, so high population systems are ideal when searching for these.

5) So far the things you can find in high grade signal sources are:
  • Core Dynamics Composites
  • Imperial Shielding
  • Pharmaceutical Isolators
  • Radiolic Alloys
  • Protolight Alloys
  • Proprietary Composites
  • Proto Heat Radiators
  • Improvised Components
6) If there is anything that I missed let me know I'll be happy to update the post.S

Pah, tell this my imperial shield mats that i searched yesterday for hours [sad]
Usually i find more than i can use, but i wanted to do a roll-marathon and needed some more this time and have searched actively. Fuuuuuh!!! And suddenly there are none and i don't find them anywhere!!!!! Passing by a boom state system, find proto heat radiators during the FSD load but in the target system again......3 hours and than i had my imperial shields [weird]
God damn RNG!

pls don't tell the people here that high grade USS are not rare just because you had some luck in RNG! ;)

Keep in mind that finding high signal sources IS RNG based so even though I had good luck you might not. That said, I wish everyone the best of luck when searching for these.

Imperial shieldings are not exclusive to Imperial systems (but they span more often there).
Go slowly (cca 35% speed in SC) to get more signal sources. For PIs search in high population systems.

Pharm Isolators tend to appear in Outbreak systems
HGE appear in non-Outbreak systems (I've not seen a higher rate in Outbreak, apparently population size is more a factor)
HGE can appear close to stars and planets its not just in deep space though it is rarer i.e. more a chance encounter
HGE can spawn 6 containers of the same material yielding 18 units in one drop if you are lucky

High Population has in my experience been vital in getting a decent HGE spawn rate, but this could just be observation bias. Following the "Outbreak" method normally leads you to tiny systems on the edge of the bubble.

More chance of Pharm Isolators if you pick and independent system, cuts out the imp shielding are core dynamic drops...

What superb advice. I decided to take it.

HR 3635 - 10 minutes into system, 1963ls away from star, in deep space...

Now I've spent 40 minutes there, got 33 of these plus chem manipulators etc. Loads of USS. Brilliant!
