A simple reason why there is so much whinging

Lack of reward.
.
I have been playing since Beta 1 and I fell in love with Elite. I made lots of money with trading and even had an Anaconda for a couple of days. When Beta 2 was released I could not play due to network problems. But that was okay, I was beta testing and doing something worthwhile.
.
I think that it was about B 2.06 when I got access for longer than an average of about 10 minutes. And the game changed. It was directing us into combat and that bores the pants off me. So I have been wandering around just managing to make ends meet in a bog standard Cobra. Until I found a basic scanner to replace the one I sold when I bought a detailed one. I then started getting rewards for flying around and it was fun again.
.
So in the way that a Brontosauruses is “large and pointed at both ends”. I think that the problem is that some people are not getting rewarded enough because they don’t want to spend their time in combat. The others are either being over rewarded in combat (I got >12k for killing a “competent” which would have taken two or three missions to get by trading.) or they have so much money from the early part of the game that they cannot see what the newer members are going through.
.
So there! :D
My bawbees worth.

Firstly I dont actually see much whinging apart from posts saying why there is so much whinging.

Secondly combat is not rewarded half as much as trading and missions. I often get 180k missions to transport gold or palladium try racking that up in combat after paying for ammo and damage/insurance.

I really don't agree and think you haven't tried combat enough to understand it pays out much less than you are suggesting.

Pirating is a hobby at the moment and an expensive one. It never pays well.

So I'm actually feeling the opposite, combat and pirating is far less rewarding than trading at the moment. Exploring is somewhere in between with mining. Multiple short run transport missions or full on trading is by far the most profitable.

I agree w/ gamecat. The only thing I'd clarify is that trading seems to be a bit more hit-or-miss. It's tough to find lucrative trading missions. In my experience, that's the same with all missions, actually. If you're lucky you'll see one that pays well. You will not likely make good money pirating at this point. Limpets seem to be hit-or-miss from what I've read. Even hearty goods don't drop from exploded ships anymore, and no one fears death no matter how many you kill :). You're really just making it easier for the bounty hunters to make money at this point. Bounty hunting CAN make you decent loot, but you need to find the right marks. Many will only pay ~1k. Every now and then I come across one worth 10-50k. Neither of these account for missions.

One question. How much are you worth?
