a small idea to aid in surface SRV exploration

scarab probes. simply put, they are beacons that show where you've been when viewing the surface map. with the current latitude/longitude navigation "system" and the limited info it provides, i find it all to easy to spend a lot of time thinking i'm making any kind of exploration progress only to realize, after an hour, i've been doing nothing but surveying the same 2 - 3 square kilometer area.

the SRV could carry 3 - 5 probes, when dropped a positional indicator is displayed when viewing the surface map, the probes will not register on the wave scanner or at least should have a very distinct audible difference from POI elements. positional markers will only remain until the player returns to supercruise or logs out.

if placed near a POI (outpost, settlement, canisters, etc) highlighting the surface map marker will give simple info about the area surrounding the marker. perhaps lat/long coordinates can be displayed as well so the player can write them down in the event there is something of major importance at the probe's location that justifies repeat visits. (such as barnacle spawn points or whatever else similar that may be introduced at a later date)

just a thought...
