I just discovered a way to easier search in the galaxy map when you try to search for a system that has a lot of similar system names. When I try to search for a system, lets say Phipoe CL-Y G4 as example, I do usually not get that system when I search for it on the first try. Instead the galaxy map first takes me to Phipoe CL-Y G40 when I click on the search button. When I continue to click on the search button I get these systems:
Phipoe CL-Y G41
Phipoe CL-Y G42
Phipoe CL-Y G43
etc...
When I get to Phipoe CL-Y G49 I hope that it will roll over and then maybe find Phipoe CL-Y G4. But no, it instead takes me to Phipoe CL-Y G400. When I continue to click the search it goes from Phipoe CL-Y G400 all the way up to Phipoe CL-Y G499 (I assume, I haven't actually continued that far by clicking on the search button 100 times).
Do any of you also have that problem?
Here is the trick I've found out: Instead of searching for Phipoe CL-Y G4 you should remove the last digit and then search. So in my example you should search for "Phipoe CL-Y G". Then it will first get to Phipoe CL-Y G1. But when I then click on the search button it takes me to Phipoe CL-Y G2, Phipoe CL-Y G3 and finally Phipoe CL-Y G4.
So if you the galaxy map takes you to the wrong system when you try to search for a specific system, just delete the last character/digit and search. Then it should max take 10 searches before you get to the system you want (if your system name ends with the digit 9) as opposed to 100s of search button clicks.
You do not have to do this if the system name ends with 4 digits like Eos Chraei SU-M D8-2792. I've at least never seen a name that ends with 5 digits, max is 4 digits as far as I have seen.
In an ideal world the galaxy map search should first try to match the exact name but now it does seem to match partial names first. The method I use above is something you can use until Frontier has fixed the search algorithm in the galaxy map.
