A suggestion about ship transfers

I'm sorry to open yet another thread about it, but reading here and there I never saw something similar to my, very simple, idea being suggested.

Starting from some of basic considerations:

  • ship transfer is a much needed feature for many players
  • gameplay here wins in my opinion without even start to think about realism
  • this feature will have a somewhat big, and mostly bad I think, impact on existing mechanics (ship builds, player behaviour)
  • adding a delay would annoy people rather than counterbalance the gameplay impact

My proposal would be:

As Frontier is adding new stations, let's add one type that has a "ship storage" service and make these stations not as common as the ones providing the "shipyard" service.
So rather than moving ships to specific places, as shipyards are almost everywhere in populated space, players can have ships delivered to more generic "zones".

While not completely solving the gameplay impact issue, this is in my opinion the most reasonable tradeoff.

Would prefer they leave it as it is, or introduce a small delay. On the flip side I like your idea, use the large CQC structures as ship delivery hubs, spread them out around the bubble. A bunch of shipyards in each powers territory, have CG's to build additional hubs out in Maia or Jaques, let the community decide where they want to have transfer ports.

We already know that the feature will be introduced and, leaving personal preferences aside, we also know that many players would like to have the feature.

About the delay: I really think it's pointless.
If it's small it will have almost no impact and if it's big it would be annoying and nothing more.

Also transfer costs, as I haven't mentioned them before, aren't the right "deterrent".
People with more time to play have tons of credits and big fleets: only benefits for them as money isn't an issue.
People having little or no time to play are very interested in having the feature to experiment diverse playstyles, but having high prices would prevent them from enjoying the possibility.

This would be nice, building these stations with a community goal, but it would probably be too chaotic (and slow) to let the community decide where.

Well, I would have hoped in a bit more love for this idea from the community.

Clearly Frontier has already weighed their pros and cons and decided to implement instant transfer: this little idea would have respected their decision while addressing some of the concerns that a big part of the players have, me included.

I have already suggested something similar. But yeah, I agree. Have them scattered around the bubble in strategic locations. It will still be very useful, but not as game breaking as what they are thinking of implementing.

I thought about having ship transfer available at only Hi-Tech systems, but yep, pretty much the same thing.
Have it the size of the ship and the range of the transport dictates the cost.

Oh, completely missed it, then.

Congrats on having a wonderful idea!

Yeah, I like the idea of transport hub stations, but there still needs a "realistic" transit time

Thanks for supporting the idea; though I do think that if it's implemented, putting transfer delays on top of that would be more of an annoyance than else.

I'm actually more worried about gameplay impacts than realism here.

Anyway, leaving my personal opinions aside, the point was to offer Frontier a possible compromise as the idea is simple, built on what they already decided to do and quite easy to implement, I guess, without taking away resources from other important things.

I think we can try to see it as a compromise, so both parites are a bit happier. I can live with this iteration even if it is instant transfer as it removes most of the exploits it can cause. I would still prefer a delay though.

I agree
