A suggestion for star/planet naming

Apologies if this has been raised elsewhere I could not find it.

The galaxy is a big big place etc - and while we know that Frontier have modelled the nearer known parts accurately, the further reaches which we simply do not have accurate data about are being or to be computer generated. There are already more than enough systems and stars with just alphanumerical codes so naming some things would be good.

My suggestion would be to make tributes to some of the great fictional writers and use some of their star/planet names. I know some popular modern ones from the likes of the Star Wars/Star Trek franchises will be copyrighted and probably would not work (love it that a station has been named "picard") but what about the old sci fi written fiction? I love reading old stuff like the classic Lensman series by E.E."doc" Smith and I think it would be wonderful to take some of the star/planet names from books like that for use on the created bits of the galaxy. Then you have the likes of Asimov, Heinlein, Arthur C Clark etc.

I am sure there are other old sci fi fans around with other favourites and it would be a nice way to look back at the origins of space fiction.
