A tale of disaster, crash landing, canopy breach, a "Light bulb " moment and loneliness

A tale of disaster, crash landing, canopy breach, a "Light bulb " moment and loneliness

All because of CMDR Lølwut :D
Rep to him for finding this godforsaken hell hole :)
His thread : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=210454
I hereby christen this system Lølwut Hell :D

Part 1
So I decide to go there, in my Asp, after he said he took tons of heatsinks with him in his Anaconda !!! I had 4 heatsinks in 2 launchers, typical explorer bravado "I know what I'm doing" & "Nothing will hurt me, I am British after all" .

With a hip hip and a muffled hooray I take my sidey to Shinrarta, pick up my combat ready Asp , yes you read correctly, combat ready , and head out 1600 LYs towards this explorer magnet, at 23LY per jump (don't ask).
Now guess , apart of not taking a Conda and more heatsinks, what else I didn't take with me ? AFMUs !!!!!! 800 LYs out it dawned on me
.
.
.
fast forward 1600LYs
.
.
.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD !!!!!

Ok, so I get within 500 Ls of the 3rd planet, then go for it, finger on heatsink launcher triggers
I was so nervous & concentrating I forgot to press F10 :D
As I approached I finally realise I am going really really slow  Forgot the mass of the star will slow me down on my approach to the planet
The plan was 2 heatsinks to land, and 2 to take off when I leave, nope ! I used 3 just to get down and even then everything went crazy after my temperature hit 150 ish
To top it off I landed on the dark side, HARD :D

I calculated the circumference at about 58k, and guesstimated I needed around 15k to get near the light side of this planet. So my Asp does about 1000 km per hour, that's 15 hours :(
No 2 ways about it, point ship to escape vector, fire her up, wait for heat to go above 120 and punch in the last heatsink.
By the time I skimmed the planet at around a height of 800km my temperature was in the high 170s, so I pointed her down and hoped for the best.
Somehow I crash landed without exploding, after half my modules failed or switched off.
I hadn't exploded :) Happy for 5 seconds until I heard heavy breathing, canopy breached :(
This is after my crash landing, pointing up (look at radar) :D

6 mins to live

HD 49368_4.jpg

I tried to deploy the buggy, but its option was red and wouldn't delpoy
Sat there for 3 more minutes thinking and smiling as to how much I love this game , then a light bulb moment happened.
I am not officially "Landed" , hmmmmm
Tried lateral and main thrusters and they were working, so was the landing gear :D
I landed and the buggy deployed *dancing banana here *
(I had 3:40 oxygen left at this point)
went to the front and no canopy breach graphics, shame

HD 49368_5.jpg

After 2 mins of messing about in the buggy I thought I should board ship whilst it has oxygen, and see what I can do
So I boarded thinking I have 1 minute of oxygen left, and realised no oxygen had been used.
DUH, I wasn't using any as I was in the buggy, well done FD :)

HD 49368_6.jpg

Ok, this gave me an idea
How about I dismiss ship, then recall it after a few minutes and see if oxygen is still around the 3:00 mark, where I left it, or will it count down when she is away(possible bug or whatever) ?
This always makes me sad, there she goes :(

HD 49368_7.jpg

I waited 2 minutes, just to allow time if oxygen depletes in an "away" ship
Recall made, I board and what ? :S
We have a bug, I will be reporting this to FD.

HD 49368_8.jpg

For now I have a ship with limitless Oxygen, as long I spend less than 7:00 in it :D
To be honest, it is lonely here, and I don't want to self-destruct
If any of you wish to make a 1600LY journey to come keep me company, please do.
I will be here for a day or 2, at least.

Bring a conda, at least 2 AFMUs and all the heatsinks you can fit :D

A superb story, I hope it unfolds well, chin up and keep smiling.
Another brave Commander lost to the depths of space.
The uncaring universe often wins, but a true human spirit can never be beaten.

Awesome! Love the spirit! I've not yet jump into Beta, so... I'm going to pick up my Betaconda tonight and learn to land. Then, if you're still here, I'll head over, looks like initiation by fire.

Is it possible to fix another CMDR's ship, btw?

Z...

Dude, all you need to do is use the AFMU to repair the canopy, we can do that now in Horizons!!!!!

Oh, yeah....nevermind, you don't have one. LOL :D

One of the things I've come to appreciate about Cmdr Dognosh - he not only provides guidance and tutorials on the right way to do things, he's soooo selfless he even demonstrates what not to do ;)

Shucks, you're all too kind :D

Another thought :
I will be exploring with buggy for a bit, hoping also someone will visit today, but what if I crash and destroy my buggy ?
I end up back in my ship, in orbit, no heatsinks
Basically from the frying pan in to the fire itself

This is fascinating Dognosh!!

Going to have to bring a specialized ship here and run some tests :)

The more the merrier Cmdr :D

p.s. bad news, found another immersion breaking bug. Will report it here later.
Currently in ship, going at snail pace around the planet, to get to the side to see the lovely ringed planets CMDR Lølwut took screenies from

Well done Dognosh, was an amazing read :D
it looks like the Conda can take heat much better than the Asp. I managed to keep the heat below 100 at all times. ... well i had 7 Heatsink launchers too but yeah :p
im now looking for more Systems like this, i heard betelgeuse has a close orbit Planet too. Gonna head there next. Once i restocked on Heatsinks ofcourse hehe

Part 2

New day, new hopes, new experiments :D
I recalled ship, and before I boarded I thought if there was an "Oxygen leak" (aka game bug) last night, then as soon as I board I will die !!!
Boarded
Canopy magically repaired, how immersion breaking :(
(will report bug)
HD 49368_part2_1.jpg

I was going to recall, fly , land before my 7:30 of oxygen ran out, dismiss, recall, rinse, repeat.
Well I might as well make the most of this bug
I decided to go straight up until I spied a planet , then fly towards it.
70km up I spotted one :D
HD 49368_part2_2.jpg

I start flying towards it at 277m/s ouch !!!
Found more planets, look on the right hand side :)
HD 49368_part2_3.jpg

Just now, at around 82km I got turbulence :S
ship started shimmying and noises were heard(I am sober)
HD 49368_part2_5.jpg

Continuing towards a better view before I land and get the buggy out

part 3 when there is something to report :D

p.s. If you come here, before you plunge in to the hell hole of the first 3 planets, try planet 10, it looks interesting, and possibly around 2G (I didn't scan it)
edit : CMDR Lolwut says it is nearer 3G, as he nearly crash landed on it just now :D

I had A rated power plant/power dist. etc. to keep heat down. I actually think the Asp deals with heat superbly, might be even better than the Conda, but then I had limited heatsinks.
Good luck on your next journey Cmdr :)
Remember to send me friend invite in the real game as beta invites get wiped !

Part 3

I am still going up, to get to OC(Orbital Cruise) height , when I decided this is too slow
How about I SC up, wait for heat build up to get serious, then come out of SC ?
After a few attempts I get up to over 790km in no time
HD 49368_part3_1.jpg

Once in OC I lose my heading indicator, which was a near disaster.
With no heading indicator, and after looking around in my ship before pointing back up, when I tried SC again, I couldn't find the escape vector indicator, and whilst I messed about in the direction of it, heat was building up
This is above OC height but no direction indicator
HD 49368_part3_2.jpg

I decide this is as good as any place to land, I keep losing height but suddenly heat goes up !!! Not sure what was happening.
I struggled and experimented with the controls, speed, direction & power distributor settings, and temperature would stabalize or go up or down , weird :S

HD 49368_part3_4.jpg

"Purple Haze" lands for the last time :(
HD 49368_part3_5.jpg

Final module figures , note the Life Support figure if 49%. That could have failed at any time
HD 49368_part3_6.jpg

This is it, she is too dangerous to fly anymore

Time for the buggy :D

I think i should have picked you up before going to Betelgeuse, now i feel like ive abandoned you lol
And there actually is a really close Planet around Betelgeuse. When coming out of Hyperspace you arrive at ~2700ls from Betelgeuse. The Planet is only 1800ls away from that Monster :D Sadly that one has an Atmosphere so i cannot land there YET. But i will come back for that one once we are allowed to land on planets with an atmosphere!
Meanwhile i still tried to get as close as possible to that planet and landed on another one in the System to take some pictures. Gonna post them soon in my thread :D

Epic!!

Its a shame ships cant repair other ships. It would give another dimension to the game i think. And saving you from that hell-like place would be the mother of all rescue missions :D

FD, guys...think about it please.

Fantastic write up!! Will have to add this to my ever growing list of systems to visit. Would rep you but have already done that elsewhere.
