Newcomer / Intro A tale of newbie luck.

I was flying around discovering stuff in a system, scraping together some credits for a new ship more than likely. Something cheap but better than my Sidewinder (I say mine...it's a loaner. Felt wrong to still be using it. Like I forgot to return a DVD I borrowed from a friend, ya know?)

Spot a strong signal source and decide to take a look. Turns out there are four ships; three space rozzers and one wanted criminal...in an anaconda. Four on one? I fancied my odds. I locked and engaged with my F-rated multi cannons figuring I'd do what I could just for a laugh. His shields go down pretty quickly and he's not actually hitting me that hard. I fly away when shields go down and evade until they come back up, but mostly it wants to shoot at the enforcers. A minute or so into this and things are going well...but then disaster.

The anaconda gets some good shots in and drops my shields. Hull integrity starts dropping and my canopy is cracked. It's okay though, shields come back online and I can keep going. And then...it got *worse*.
Canopy blew out. I figured "Welp, I got greedy and died." and then realise...I'm still flying. What's that say, 5 minutes of oxygen? I...might manage that.

When the timer gets to 4 minutes I figure it's probably a good idea to leave. I check my computer to see how close I got to destroying him before leaving. The ship had 1% hull left. It's on like Donkey Kong. Do or die time. I turned around and went straight for him, guns blazing. With 3:30 left on the oxygen the Anaconda blew up and I netted 147,000 credits bounty. Victory! Only...now I have to get repair as soon as possible. I quickly searched for the nearest base, waggled my wings in thanks and warped out.

I hadn't considered the fact the HUD is projected onto the canopy. All I could see was meaningless starts and dots in front, if I wanted to have a clue where the station was I needed to tilt my nose down and look through the roof. It was tense as hell when I approached the station because sometimes putting the throttle in blue hasn't slowed me down and if I overshot this, I'd be dead. Thankfully the ship got there without overshooting. 1 minute oxygen left. And it's one of those cube stations.

Full throttle, begging for docking access ASAP, granted (thank God). I'm tearing at this station with bits falling off my ship. Low on ammo; less than a minute of oxygen; hull at 34% integrity; the elastic snapped on the furry dice.
I did a sharp turn and blew through the slit of the station at full pelt and literally breathed a sigh of relief as I entered their atmosphere with 5 seconds of oxygen left. That was the most careful landing I've ever made and I could not hammer that "REPAIR ALL" button hard enough. Cashed in my bounty and went on to buy a Cobra =)

TL;DR - Blew up a Star Destroyer with an X-Wing and lived to tell the tale =)

Welcome to ED way of life..... now that you've pushed your luck a little, don't forget that trusty Cobra isn't free and make sure you can always cover the re-buy! ;-)

A wonderful story! Congratulations Commander, you'll be telling that one around the station bar for years to come.

A great read. I love this game when it leaves you hanging on by the skin of your teeth! Have a go at hunting in a RES on the dark side of a planet. That keeps me on my toes :) good fun. It's like driving country lanes at speed in the night with your lights turned off. Not that I've ever done that.

Its tales like this that will make E: D the rich game it can be, we at early days yet and the game will have to be out for a few years before the whole fabric will start to shine. Also the ability to stand in the same bar on a station would be cool and a good start

A great read commander. I had a similar incident with a 'wanted' anaconda in my kitted-out cobra. I scooped the 180k bounty and jumped out with just 4% hull left and oxygen running out. I prayed I wouldn't be interdicted en-route to the closest orbital (I wasn't) and managed to survive.
I now have two upgrades that vastly reduce the chances of this 'close-call' happening again - especially as I've been in a battle in swaza for the last week; (1) an upgraded life support with 15mins of oxygen (even allows time for being interdicted en-route to base for repairs if the canopy goes - just remember to boost and fsd out asap if you are), (2) a field repair unit - this is worth it weight and saved me from destruction many times. I usually boost to a safe distance, open a bottle of beer and let the fru do its job before rejoining at battle. Just don't let any of your sub-systems get to 0% - I usually repair main systems (thrusters, shield gen, sensors) at 30%ish. Note: if you lose thrusters or sensors you are doomed never to reach a port or be able to dock.

Sadly, the war has moved on so I'm now scouting for another. I'm 19M creds up now and will stick with my cobra for the time being. Lost count of the pythons I've taken (anacondas are trickier but not impossible).
Take care out there

A word of advice for you, As your now in a little nimble ship, pound the big ships power plant......... wait for it BOOOOMMMM and the python/anaconda is now in bits. it has saved my life more than once and so has silent running :D

Without the epic part, I had a similar experience.

Except that the station on which I landed while having only a few remaining seconds did not have any repair equipments...

if oyu go into the hangar your ocigen should get refuled no matter what (so you can go to a station with repair tools)
