A temperate map with no snow

Hey guys, suggestion time:

Could we please have a map that is a temperate biome, with conditions to suit eastern Australian conditions? I want to build my zoo in Australia but I don’t want to be limited to the grassland biome because it’s far too dry to reflect my real location.

A milder temperate biome map would:
  • look identical to the temperate map
  • never snow
  • have a hot summer: to 35 degrees C
  • and milder winters: down to 13 degrees C

That’s about it. I checked whether snow could be turned off in options but it doesn’t look like it can. It would be faster to make an option to turn off certain weather effects, so that’s another suggestion.

Basically, I’m asking for a generic, green grassy zoo map with no extreme weather conditions.

Cheers!

E and SE Australia is already only Tropical on the game's map, lacking the appropriate Temperate Biome. So you can simply build it there without any snow and it'll still be wet.

Yeah, but the tropical climate doesn’t suit Eastern Australia either. You’re right that at least it won’t snow though!

You are right. Which is exactly why I had included temperate Australia in my list of places that need a revision on the game's map.

Also relevant for Mediteranean countries, and some parts of the US.

A very much missing biome.

Mediterranean scrub and woodlands are categorized under Grasslands biome in the game due to the lack of summer precipitation; which kind of does the job due to the lack of snowfall and green grass. As for Southeastern US, an area that receives substantial rainfall throughout the year, Temperate biome does indeed cause some issues due to snowfall in the game. Tropical South Florida is a pretty easy fix; just make Everglades Grassland and the Atlantic side (Miami) Tropical, but subtropical Florida and the rest of subtropical Southeast is the real problem, as making it Tropical would be as awkward as how Southern South America, China, SE Australia and New Zealand is right now.

Therefore for the sake of consistency making these locations in the Eastern and Southern Hemispheres temperate seems like the only plausible solution with the current set of biomes. If they can add regional variety, like different plant assets or lack of snowfall, that would be amazing but I doubt that level of detail will ever be in the game.

I'm from the Mediterranean region, and the grassland in the game is very unlike what we have. The grassland is the game ia very much like an African Savannah, and in my country even the scrubland never gets as hot as tye grassland in the game. It is much closer to a temperate biome with no snow.

The divide between Mediterranean and Temperate climates is determined by summer precipitation, and this causes the latter to be classified as a Temperate Broadleaf Forest. Non of the plant assets categorized as Temperate and Europe in the game (or any classification method) would fall under the Mediterranean Biome. Other than the reasons I talked about in my previous reply, like green grass year round, this reason alone is why it can't be classified under Temperate. The game does suffer from variety in its maps due to all plants on each biome being the same across all continents and with identical temperatures, but that is a global issue rather than being specific to Southern Europe. It's just how the biomes are grouped up under 'umbrella biomes' to represent each region as accurate as possible.

If we were to delve into how Grasslands Biome represents places, then even actual Grassland regions of North America and Eastern Europe would suffer from the criticism you just made; not being as hot as an African Savannah. These two vast regions are in fact cooler than Southern Europe during summer, and they are even colder and snowier than most of the places tagged Taiga in the game, plummeting down to -40 degrees in the winter. If we take individual attributes like summer or winter temperatures, we can never come out of this discussion. Which is why a common classification system needs to be used to decide how biomes are grouped up and applied everywhere on the globe.

I would recommend you to check this link out:

That being said, all of the Mediterranean countries in the game in fact do have sections with Temperate Biome, which you can pick to build your zoos if you will.
