A thank you to Frontier and a photographic study of sorts

Update: Alcor system shots added to thread.

Hi all,

first off I'd like to thank Frontier for the beauty that is Elite Dangerous. I've been spending quite a bit of time recently taking in the wonderful sights. I think a lot of my time in ED will simply be doing just that, enjoying the audio / visual experience that it offers. I can think of no other game that has given me such a sense of wonderment.

I'm going to try and do 'photographic' projects as it were of particularly interesting and striking systems. I'll add any such shots to this thread.

Eta Cephei system:

BD+67 1409 system:

Alrai system:

Altais system:

Alcor system:

All galleries can be seen here.

If anyone knows of any particular systems of interest worth visiting I'd love to hear them.

All the best.

this sure would be a sweet screensaver.

How do you get rid of the cockpit CMDR?

You can't, but if you pitch the nose of the Sidewinder down by 90 degrees and look "up" through the overhead canopy you have an unrestricted view.

All the user shots and videos you see that have no HUD or cockpit details are taken this way, or else by taking a 4x view and cropping it down (but there are issues with that method).

Many thanks for your kind words everyone. ED really is a stunning game so I hope these images do it some justice. One of my main interests / hobbies is photography but for one reason or another I've not been able to do much of that recently. ED has allowed me to become a galactic photographer of sorts, now I just need to find some systems to sell my celestial postcards to :)

How do you get rid of the cockpit CMDR?

As others have already mentioned, you simply look out through the top of the sidewinder cockpit and then move your ship until you get the composition you want. If you're taking 4K screenshots it's important that your ship is completely stationary, otherwise the canopy bars and other distractions may suddenly appear when you press alt-f10.

It would be great to have higher res versions of these.

I will try and upload and link to 4k versions of these if you want, more than happy to do so.

Some nice shots there - I particularly like the first one. I agree - E: D is one of the most visually impressive games I've seen. Ive experienced a true sense of wonder at times.
