Everyone is saying quite a lot about the Engineers update and Multicrew later in the season. But nobody's saying much about 2.2
I have a bit of a theory around the ship launched fighters coming. Given that have said that there will be larger cities on the planets later this season, I figure there might actually be a mission based thing where we may need small nimble fighters to take on certain task in areas the ships just can't reach simply because they're too big.
Think of attacking a large base now with the ships, sure it can be done if you already know the layout. But for the most part, especially if you need to scan anything, you will more than likely need an SRV.
Imagine a similar thing but with an actual city with huge skyscrapers and moving targets within it. If the cities are vast and tight enough, I can see us actually needing a ship like the Keelback to launch a fighter to take on a mission target I otherwise couldn't get to from the air unless I'm using something like a Sidewinder. Perhaps SRVs could do it from the ground but maybe the target is a fighter itself and is far too fast for it.
In space I feel fighters will more than likely be out matched be even something as small as the Sidey in every way and will just be viewed as fun little toys. But on the surface especially if cities are involved where flying at high speed in a ship in just plain not possible they could prove far more important. Much the same as the SRV is pretty important on the ground now.
I feel I might be on to something here. It would make sense since Fighters are getting their own update to themselves. If it were just the addition of the passengers or the change of the mission system I can't see the fighters getting all of the attention of 2.2.
Or am I just way off base here. I was super wrong about the Cobra MK IV before it was released after all.
Any ideas on what 2.2 could bring?
