A thirst for a Cobra MKIII

I have been playing this game for just over a week now, it already feels like a lot longer. Heck I have been playing Elite for 30 years :) Its amazing how the developers have made a totally new game but kept the feeling of the original.

Anyway I have bought a couple of ships, but today I felt that getting old sentimental yearning for a touch of the good old days. I decided I want to buy a Cobra MKIII. Yes I know the ships only connection to the game of thirty years ago is in the name only, but like a little kid I want one, so I am going to get one, simple as that. I am not really interested in how it compares to other ships, if its better or worse. It is purely a sentimental journey. However I was wondering if the ship had the same kind of general set up as the ship of 30 years ago. Does it take the same kind and the same number of weapons? Or is it impossible to compare the two now?

What made you think that? It's the same ship; near enough the same size, shape, crew, cargo, hardpoints, performance and general function.

It doesn't have quite the all-conquering attitude it used to but that's because other ships are treated properly.

The main change with the weaponry is that all four hardpoints are forward facing.

I got the cobra mkIII just to realize I wanted my Viper back. :<

So now I have a premium Viper again, happily blasting around the stars :)

I'm flying the MkIII now and as the OP stated it was for sentimental reasons that I initially wanted to fly her. I think she's a great all rounder and I hope they release a MkIV as she is 300 years old.

Well, only in name. I think you'll find that Faulcon de Lacy are trading on the kudos. The current Cobra Mk3 bears as much resemblance to the original one as the Ford GT does to the model T. ;)

Think of it as a Jaguar E-Type with Veyron running gear.

Cheers,

Drew.

Welp, if it ain't broke, don't fix it... :D

Just a quick question... this isn't a dig, an insult or a criticism...

I've noticed a few people using the word 'Welp' in this manner and wondered what it meant.

To me, 'Welp' (or rather Whelp) means a derogatory term for an insolent youth!

So, please advise upon the modern vernacular of this word. Thank you :)

Lakon 6 == Ford Transit

Have you flown a Type 6? Its definitely a Ram Van.

The Cobra was my all time favorite, until the jump ranges came. Ok, the Lakon isn't much of a fighter, but what good is an all-rounder with weapons, if it can't go everywhere? Until the Cobra can be upgraded, it'll be Type6 for me.

The cobra is pretty good at everything, so great if you don't want to specialize. However, if you do know that you want to be more combative and not bothered about cargo, then the viper is significantly better. Similarly, the lakon type 6 is better if you want to go for trading without being heavily armed
