I bought a Viper, shes got a 61k rebuy and I wanted some fun. USS hunting for a bit.
So I drop in a USS and a sidewinder thinks scanning a viper is a good idea, 'don't worry, the scan doesn't hurt' flashes across my comm screen. I deploy the KWS, I can already see he's wanted. This isn't going to go well for him. I'm feeling confident from two Asp kills previously and as soon as the KWS completes I'm switching firegroups to bring the burst lasers online. Were nose to nose, when my weapons discharge. We do a little vertical dance before he boosts off. I kill flight assist and boost, can't boost again due to power config (mental note to work on this). Its here I notice the lack of A grade modules in my fit, constrained by what the shipyard had. First time out was loaded better but due to brownouts across most of my systems even with properly set priorities I had to downgrade. This Sidewinder isn't a CMDR but I'm having trouble keeping him in the crosshairs, I'm considering switching to gimbals but I'm still landing hits with the burst.
'Target Shields Offline.' ;,,;
Glance at the capacitors and see the Wep is still full, definitely can adjust priories but not now, Having difficulty keeping all weapons on target, resort to prioritise hitting with AC's, Bursts can just miss since I'm at full cap. Sidey is still managing to either present so small a target that I'm missing or out turning and thrusting me even with FA off. He gets his shield back up and I drop it in half a heartbeat. For all I can't hit him much he's not landing anything on me either.
He's at 49% hull when he starts to run. Since he was in a Sidey I didn't bother to target his FSD or powerplant. I never expected a fight. It's easy now, as soon as they trigger a jump they fly straight and level, I'm up his chuff in no time, I see the hull reach 0% on the readout and I keep firing just a bit longer to be sure.
I swear I saw explosions as his drive kicked in and he blinked out. He left a wake but no wake scanner. I imagined a small FSD cough at the other end, wreckage being shot into a sun from ten light years away. I kick back into FSD and start looking for another USS to investigate, bang, I'm being interdicted. I have to pause for a moment to remind myself I'm not flying a cargo vessel anymore but a heavy fighter fitted for war. I submit but miss the target before my speed falls off enough. I'm thrown sideways into normal space and I'm already setting speed in the blue and bearing back where I came. No ship drops out with me. I'd seen reports of interdictions failing like this. Maybe they're just a million km away in normal space. Ah well.
Heres my fit. Only good for the system its in.

Next up I drop in on a Cobra and a Sidewinder. I end up in this weird jousting pattern with the Cobra, I found it strange his friend just left him but he didn't get too far. The fight with the cobra proves that I need more practice given I have more useable planes of motion in the Viper, I imagine myself moving more like a Colonial Viper from BSG. Due to police involvement I ended up wrecking this Cobra with a short burst between the Fuzz. Risky.
The Sidey was still on sensors and lasted longer than the Cobra, I'm convinced its lack of practice. More hunting needed. Modified power settings held up just fine, still couldn't boost enough. Will have to experiment.
I'm hungry now so time to put in. Heading back to Agnews' Folly in Vequess. I'm so busy thinking about the various changes that are needed that I forget to ask for docking permission. Large red warnings and timers ticking, I jam the anchors on as the ship clears the docking slot before reversing blind and hoping I hadn't misaligned in panic. I reverse out the slot as I see 400cr fine issued. The timer disappears and I tentatively ask the station if I can dock. 'Permission Denied', rings out. 11 second timer on docking infractions. I wait patiently hoping the circling security vessels don't scan me. Nothing. I'm allowed to dock with no further problems and the first thing I do is clear the fine.
Lots of fun. Apologies for the long post. I'll be checking the forum for tips.
