Newcomer / Intro A traders minor quirk

Hey guys!

I started this game 3 days ago, and I've encountered a minor quirk. I've reached the Master rank with the Empire, but my next mission is an assasination mission. Is it impossible for me to go further than Master with the Empire without going into combat? I realize with my stacks of credits I could just buy a strong combat ship and wreak havoc, but it seems a bit off to force people into the military aspect of things just to gain faction ranks, seeing as other contributions such as credits, commodities, hell even exploration charts are valuable also from a militaristic perspective.

What I ask for is simply to allow other routes to faction ranks, than just a set route that forces you into aspects of the game you may not want to be handling from a roleplay perspective.

Every pilot is not a combat pilot!

Best regards,

Raz Valmont

They are Navy progression ranks, so doing some military activity is to be expected.

Missions are getting an overhaul as part of 1.3 so maybe they will introduce other paths to military rank, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I can appreciate that this is the Navy and that it has a militaristic point of view, but like I mentioned in the original post, there are other realistic ways of contributing to the navy aswell, not all army personell are *cough* grunts *cough* frontline combatants.
You have the medics, whose primary task is to heal the wounded, you have the comm-folks who handles communication mainly, and you also have logistics, who mainly handle the transport of army goods. All of these paths within any army have the opportunity to grow in rank within the faction it serves. So I ask again, why not here ?

I do sympathise with your point of view, after all you can gain Elite rank not just through combat, but also trading and exploration too.

The military progression missions as they stand now are pretty awful and really ridiculously easy, you can progress to the highest ranks doing little more than courier and fetch/carry missions, plus 2 assassinations.

As I said above though the whole way missions are presented is getting a complete facelift in 1.3. So hopefully the whole career progression thing will get fleshed out.

It's probably why there are other types of progression missions and they are not all just assassination types.

But unfortunately, to progress in any Navy you have to prove your worth to them at some point. Can't be avoided.
