A Voyage to the Galactic Rim....I have been to the Edge

Distance from Lave: 8,958.67 LY
Ship Status: All systems at 100%

It appears my long voyage to the Galactic Rim has reached it's end. I'm currently in System SPAIDOU OQ-C C26-0. My navigation computer is unable to find a way to the remaining stars Rim-ward from my location.

I came a long, long way....to sit in space and see nothing. Absolutely NOTHING. To stare into the abyss of inter-Galactic space. The experience did not disappoint. The blackest black...and a reminder that even something as vast as our Galaxy has limits....edges...a Rim. Truly a staggering sensation.

ESPECIALLY....when I rolled 180 degrees and took a look back towards the Core. It's a blur...a smudge. All of humanity but a speck from this perspective.

Gives one ALOT to think about. Politics...credits...the lot....seem a little less important from this perspective.

I plan to stay in this system for a bit. I'm in no hurry to return to inhabited space and will decide where to go from here on a whim, most likely. To this point, my first trip outside The Bubble has been a complete success.

Safe explorations to the rest of you.

Commander Himilco, out.

I love it! Pushing the ends either left-right-up-down is an experience of concern no matter if you're a veteran explorer or not.

When you find that farthest jump in the area you're in there starts to become one way out and one way back. It's like spelunking (caving). You're digging into the tiniest tunnel achievable by you jump range. And at the end is likely nothing -- or everything -- as I found waterworlds and candidates for terraforming out there. What lonely worlds those would be.

Congrats! Now that you've done this, you do realise that you *have* to fly 75k Ly in the other direction, right?

I'm leaning in that direction, if I'm honest. Or at least half that distance anyway....to the Core.

I think I next want to fill the cockpit view of my ASP with stars.

Once you've gotten as far as the core, just do what I did. Forget to point your ship the other way. It worked well!

Grats on your journey so far, but I'm afraid that I have to inform you that you're still about 6,000 LY from the Rim. You've reached the void at the edge of the Perseus Arm but there's a much less dense galactic arm further out and you can get to around 15,000 LY 'south' of colonised space. Unfortunately, to cross to this arm you would have to backtrack a bit and then make a detour to the 'west' to find a way across.
